Unmarried foreign couple registering newborn baby

Hi everyone,

This is urgent as there is a crossroads decision to be made depending on the answer, so any knowledge/experienced shared is truly appreciated.

An unmarried foreign couple (APRC and ARC holders) is about to have a child in Taiwan. Once the delivery of the child is done can they have both names of mother and father listed in the birth certificate from the hospital? If yes, will the immigration center accept this birth certificate (since the parents are unmarried) to apply for the new born’s ARC or will the immigration center fuss about the parents not being married?

Thank you lots in advance

If you need a quick answer, you should call your local office of the National Immigration Agency.

I’m not sure about both parents being foreigners but if the mother is Taiwanese and she’s not married to the father, the father’s name will not be on the birth certificate. I would imagine the same for foreigners. You can call the hospital you will give birth at and check as they are the ones who issue the birth certificate, not the government.
