Sorry for the cryptic title, just trying to make this thread easily findable by a title only search.
Other threads I’ve found refer to an outdated, no longer active site when referring to tariff codes for importing into Taiwan. This is the current site:
web.customs.gov.tw/rate/rate/esearch.asp
Now for a question: I’m going to import 4 of the new Ipod Touches, and the closest tariff code I can find is:
web.customs.gov.tw/rate/rate/que … 000081.htm
Portable digital automatic data processing machines, weighing not more than 10 kg, consisting of at least acentral processing unit, a keyboard and a display
Which (lucky me) carries a 0% import duty from all WTO countries, which of course includes the USA. The keyboard part is a stretch although it does have a keyboard on the screen…
So assuming customs goes along with that code, that’s it right? No other taxes and fees to be paid?
Thanks to the WTO most items have a 0% import duty. But everything has a 5% VAT. Does this item have wi-fi ? Can’t import radio transmitters.
Thanks, I didn’t know about the VAT. I’ve never been charged on that before, I suppose because my packages have always been a mix of personal items and things my parents send me in a care package. I’m not even sure what they wrote on the invoice.
It does have wifi… but how would they know? It’s a new product on the market, and the first “mp3 player” (edit:ipod) to have wifi.

Just letting you know anyway.
I appreciate the heads up of course.
So would it be stupid to have my mom pack a few into a box with a few other personal items and just label the whole box “personal” with “no commercial value”? Maybe have her throw in some smelly socks for added effect? haha…
