In what manner would demonstrating that a proposal would be effective, even in hindsight, if a person proposes sweeping, controversial legislation.
Seat belts were made mandatory because they were demonstrated to have the capacity to save lives. Helmet laws. Laws against underage smoking. Vaccines. Standards for building codes.
When we have horrible events, regardless if accidents or intentional, we have a responsibility to sit down and think things through and come up with a solution that would have prevented such events from happening. Truck drivers need to take breaks. Teachers need to have background checks. People need to be screened before boarding a plane.
If you can’t come up with a single situation in which your proposal would have been effective in preventing even one incident any time in history, you don’t have an idea, you have an emotional reaction.
Come on, between the two of you, you surely can come up with a situation in which an elderly pensioner in the early stages of dementia went in and shot up a school, can’t you?
As we Homo sapiens continue to destroy with weaponry no wonder our planet holds an irreversible foreseeable future!
