USA National ID Card

Since when was issuing driver’s licenses or state IDs an attempt to implement a national ID? It was never meant to be.[/quote]

you just moved to florida from colorado and need to open a new bank account. which piece of identification do they ask you for on your form? your driver’s license from colorado. there is not even a box for state id(though i’m sure you could enter the number instead). the 50+ driver’s license and 50+ state id’s are what you use to establish your identity anywhere in the us. they are the de facto national id.

Yes you could (enter the state ID number). OK, so they are de facto national IDs (even though the orginal purpose was to be able to legally drive a car) and the system works fine. So you can use your colorado license to open an account in florida thus proving that you don’t need a national ID.

They should implant the national id. Make it more secure. That way you’d never – theoretically – lose it.

They could tell from a skin scan if the age of the scar tissue matched the official implantation date. Counterfeiters begone!

Anyone who made smartass public remarks about it being the ‘mark of the beast’ would be prosecuted under the Patriot Act for being unpatriotic.

Ten years hence, with a few minor adjustments . . .

"A Citizen Status Review Tribunal (CSRT) has determined that you are an enemy of the state. Because you are an enemy of the state, the United States government may continue to detain you.

An Adminstrative Review Board (ARB) will now be held to determine whether you still pose a threat to the United States government or allies. Due to the current level of threat to the public order, this Board will serve a combined function as judge, jury, prosecution, review and, if necessary, executioner but you may be assured that it will fulfill all these functions fairly, objectively and with absolute respect for your rights and the facts.

You may attend the ARB proceeding and present facts about yourself to ARB members . . . "

One aspect that you’ve overlooked is the role of Social Security numbers. Originally designed to manage a kind of public assistance to the elderly, these are now used as de facto ID numbers (as well as taxpayer ID). This happened in much the same way that drivers licenses–originally used mainly to prove that one has state permission to drive–are now used mostly as identity documents (and proof of age).

The U.S. government will not be opening a new office charged with giving all Americans a special card. Rather, they are quietly regulating the various states’ practice of issuing drivers licenses, and requiring (for example) that the social security number be used as the license number.

You’ll notice that passport application forms now require a social security number. Also, application for social security numbers has been tightened up a lot. It used to be fairly easy to apply for a number, and then use it to create fake identity documents.
