Using iPhone as line-in mic/ webcam

A while ago I had the dvd drive replaced in my iMac. Didn’t notice until later that the techies broke my mic in the process. Now, I’d like to use desktop facetime, but don’t have a mic. I do have my phone, and many apps allow you to use an line-in mic, but not (yet) desktop facetop. Any ideas on a workaround?

Similarly, at home, I have a Mini: no mic, no built-in camera… but I do have the iPhone. I’ve been able to use the iWebCam app to turn the iphone into a webcam… but, no sound, and apparently not working with desktop facetime.

Yeah, I know i could just get a webcam (assuming I could find one that would work as an iSight camera), but there ought to be a solution that uses the tools at hand.

Any ideas?

thanks.

Wow, that sounds awfully complicated. The best advice I can give you is to get a webcam with a built-in microphone. A lot of the new webcams have a mic built in.

Sorry, I know nothing about iPhones or Macs, so I can’t really help too much. I just prefer to keep things simple, so the webcam with a mic sounds simpler to me.
