Vehicle support for cycling tour

I’m planning an 8-day cycling tour in Taiwan from October 19 to 28, riding from north to south.

I would like to rent a Car support service. We are two cyclists, each with a bike, and we need a support vehicle with driver capacity, bicycle transport, mechanical backup, and emergency assistance support.

If anyone has information on this it would be amazing.

  • Availability for these dates

  • Daily rate and any multi-day package or discount

  • Inclusions (mechanical support, supplies, photography, overtime, etc.)

  • Any booking or deposit requirements

Thank you

Here’s one place I found by searching 保母車. I can’t vouch for this particular company. I know this is something you can find. You might want to ask a Taiwanese friend for help. I used a support car when I cycled up Wuling, but it was the other two Taiwanese guys I went with that arranged everything with the driver. Good luck!

@simonvincent late October could be a bit tough to find a car support with Taiwan KOM around that time, but if you book early (event dates haven’t been announced yet), you could get lucky!

Here’s my friend Eason (https://www.instagram.com/maysupply_cycling?utm_source=ig_web_button_share_sheet&igsh=ZDNlZDc0MzIxNw==) who is one of the most well known support cars in Taipei. He was a hardcore cyclist himself back when we weren’t on disc brakes yet (now more of a leisure cyclist when his job allows it), top notch service and one helluva photographer. The international cycling apparel brands like Rapha, MAAP and PNS all regularly book in with him.

If he’s busy during that time, he does have friends that he can get you in touch with to support your tour.

Rates typically go from 7-9000NT/day that’s all inclusive except for meals and lodging. Drivers will typically provide suggestions on meals and lodging, so you may not have to worry about not having an authentic meal or uncomfortable stay.

From my understanding, if you book drivers in for multiple days, there’s no extra charge for going over. A bit unfair if you just having an off day resulting in a longer day in the saddle and now have to pay extra, right?

Hope this helps! I’m not on here as often lately, so feel free to DM me if you have any specific questions you don’t want to post.

Thank you for taking the time to reply. I did not know the Taiwan KOM was on at that time. From my investigation it will be on Monday 27th - we could well be interested in incorporating the event into our adventure.

Are you going the mountain route or the coastal route? If coastal, east or west coast? Obviously one could totally book a support car for either, but the usefulness of it would depend on what you choose

Hi - just got your message - we are open to options but want to ride through the mountains and really just need someone to follow with our gear. Do you know how we go about booking a support car?

In that case, a support car could definitely come in handy. This place provides that service and seems well reviewed, and of course speaks english: Cycling Vehicle Support | Biking Car Supply | MathewBike

Have you seen this GCN video? They did the exact same thing you’re wanting to do (though much faster).
