Vent Your Frustrations - Getting to Taiwan through recruiters

What has been the worst part of getting to Taiwan through recruiters?

When I applied for a job, other than an interview, my recruiters practically did nothing. What has been the worst part of getting an English teaching job and moving countries?

What could have been better and any complaints about the process or recruiters that you used?

Full disclosure: I’m hoping to help in recruiting teachers in Taiwan and provide a better experience which emphasises social aspects.

Never, ever, EVER pay recruiters. They’re headhunters who make their commissions from the schools. If you paid someone to find a job for you, you got ripped off. Period. Only use recruiters that do not charge or find a job yourself by contacting schools directly.

In Taiwan, at least, most of them are scum of the earth. Bottom feeders who’ll screw people over at the blink of an eye. Are there some honest ones? Probably, but finding one that is would be very difficult. For most, the best thing is to come here and look for yourself, have all your documents ready to go and don’t trust a word out of the mouths of any local recruiter.

If you want to to work in this field and emphasize something, then you should emphasize honesty and transparency. Social aspects are meaningless if you’re screwing over your recruits.

Thank you, that’s a helpful insight. Based on my own experience they weren’t exactly scum but useless and not helpful post placement.

I hope to change that, and along with transparency, the social aspect is to provide more post placement to encourage settlement.

My hope is to provide a real service to potential teachers so they don’t have the same experience as me.
