3pm is when our buddy takes the stage.
My guess is that they will stop all air travel for two weeks is the cases don’t come down by Friday.

MMmm they had said 2pm originally. I do not like delays.
@Icon What happened?
Guy
It was the 3pm announcement of the new 23 cases. Oh and that furriner tourists were not allowed back in.
The coronavirus outbreak in the foreign national’s home country is not considered force majeure, she stressed.
However, the Taiwan government will also make exceptions if a foreign national’s home country is under lockdown and the individual is unable to return home, or there are no available flights, Yeh said.
We’ll see what MAGA looks like in a couple weeks. Maybe the Y2K I never had.
yes tommy had all his schooling in taiwan and that included univ of maryland classes in taiwan until the us military withdrew and the classes ended. I chose to stay in taiwan because I didnt want to leave (never did want to leave) and i did not complete a college degree in the usa.
taiwan used to be very liberal towards us citizens. My mom was taiwanese and dad american therefore i could NOT get taiwan citizenship.
i used to be able to work, then laws changed to where i could not. i tried my hand at doing my own biz for a while.
prior to that i had an arc at times and one when i was married.
in hindsight i should have kept that arc going and later when they came out with the Aprc i would have qualified.
But hey hindsight is 20/20.
I could have married someone else and still be legal in taiwan yes?
so for a lot of the times making a visa run was easier
It started with a five year multiple visa allowance in the usa passport. And one could go to to the local fuzz shop and get an extension twice as long as one was working. So only had to leave every six months.
Later i worked for a liaison office and therefore could not get the extension. I still could and did pay taxes though as that is a separate branch of the tw govt.
in the end, not being able to work and having no successful biz of my own or thoughts on how to do one and no tw wife i had to leave.
Taiwan is a rare country where one can be born there to one parent who is taiwanese and still be considered a foreigner.
This is where the USA still leads the world in human rights.
IN the USA i cant imagine a person born in the USA to an American citizen mother being considered as NON American because it wasnt his DAD who was an American citizen.
Taiwan laws can suck. And make no sense.
I remember going to get a new drivers license in taiwan and the laws just changed where you had to have an ARC. I already had a tw drivers license for over 20 years at that time and still they could not issue a new one?
But the manager was kind to me when i explained my situation. I had my car outside how was i to drive it home?
She said she will ok this extension but she couldn’t do another to which i said i do plan to marry my tw gf and she suggested i do that.
The tw govt does many things right but in immigration its FOCKED UP.
Any bets on a Monday lockdown?
I think the TW govt should not require one to leave the island to extend one’s visa for the next few months due to current circumstances with the virus if they have a valid reason to be in Taiwan. They should be allowed up to six months automatically.
Thats just my opinion, which holds not a drop of water though.
this actually makes a lot of sense.
It’s not abusing the system. Where does it say we cant leave and come back? Stop making things up. Taiwan is perfectly fine with people doing visa runs and have never given me trouble for it.
Taiwan’s not perfectly fine with people doing visa runs now. Which is perfectly logical.
yah now, but they were earlier. So either everyone doing visa runs will leave and come back later or get a valid visa. Simple.
If they can. It does show the vulnerability people place themselves using visa runs as a long term solution.
I don’t have any problems with people doing multiple visa runs, by the way. I just consider it to be a very bad strategy unless you have no other choice. I fail to understand why anyone would have used that strategy if they were in a position to get a valid visa. Laziness?
because they earn more money and don’t need to teach english? why would anyone teach english if they don’t have to is a more valid question…
OK, so they were unable to get the legal visa they felt entitled to have.
They aren’t cause of the covid 19 not cause they have any problem with it. Everytime I do visa runs the passport control know about it and they are okay with it.

I said “now”. That means that Taiwanese immigration does have an issue with multiple visa runs now, but didn’t in the past. Multiple visa runs are a risky way of staying in Taiwan, as is now being shown. If one has no choice, then sobeit.
