Vo2 Max testing

Does anyone know where you can get a Vo2 max test done?

I’ve asked in a couple of private health clinics and looked on a few hospital websites but haven’t found anywhere in Taipei.

Surely a university with a sports science department would be the place to contact?

It doesn’t answer your question, but if you run, you might be interested to know that your VO2max is highly correlated (0.95+) with your run time, and you can therefore get a pretty accurate estimate of VO2max from doing two or three medium-distance runs.

You’ll get a slightly better estimate with the full setup measuring respiration, but I think you’ll be surprised how close it is just using this method.

I haven’t been able to find this sort of thing, either. I contacted some sports medicine clinics a while back about DEXA scans (for body fat percentages) but no one seems to have an idea…

I think Fitness Factory has this option available.

Thanks. Did you see that somewhere or how do you know?

TW friend told me the one in Xinyi can do this. Not sure if it is true 100% however. Just worth looking into

I doubt a gym would attempt anything other than a submax test. A proper VO2max is always done in a hospital setting, or at least with clinical support on hand, because of the (relatively) high risk of something bad happening.

FWIW I was referring to a DEXA scan :slightly_smiling_face:

Ah, yup. Didn’t read it properly

Ok thanks, will do. As for the Vo2 max testing those are good points. However, my Garmin has an estimate and from what I’ve read it’s usually relatively accurate.

Finley, I didn’t know about this calculator. Very useful, thanks for sharing.

I’ll keep looking, though I might end up getting one of those fancy watches. Probably a smart investment all things considered.

As for a DEXA scan, I’m pretty sure the Fubon Health Clinic on Keelung Rd do one. I’m sure it’s mentioned on their website
