Have any foreign expat or tourist tried the volunteer teaching in Taiwan? is there a school offer in such a way?
You could check out a school and see if they have an after school program or a special needs program, but they won’t be able to sponsor you or offer you anything in return. It would be illegal for them to offer you meals or a place to stay, as that is a form a payment. They would also not be able to help you extend your visa or get a residency.
But there are lots of opportunities for helping out kids with some local organizations. Many churches and social organizations have homework programs that help under-privileged kids, such as low income families, single-parent families, or kids who live with their grandparents. There are schools for blind and deaf kids that have volunteers too.
You can volunteer here in Taiwan; you just can’t do it as a vocation or basis of residency.
