Which Taiwan SAR flag do you like best?

  • PRC stars on blue
  • Hong Kongish
  • Macauish (but with plum blossom)
  • Chiang and Mao, together at last

In honor of Lien Chan’s trip to China…

:notworthy: Did you make these, Mr Glove? Cracking.

Very funny!

Mao and CKS doing this would be super:

:hubba:

Or on the theme of a national flower, a la HK bauhina, what about one of these in the middle:

You forgot to add the PRC flag with 5 smaller stars instead of 4.

Where is the flag with the two cute pandas?

My bad. Here 'tis…

You think Chiang looks good with a “droopy panda” (aka tarepanda)?

BTW, where are ac and ccparty? I thought they jumped all over every thread in this forum…

Where is the white “I surrender” flag?

Now put it on a coin or bill of some sort, and you’re done.

LOL, Mr. Glove. Bravo.

The panda one is perfect.

Such great creativity needs to be shared. I posted your thread to this site (http://www.socialforce.tw/phpBB/viewtopic.php?p=365550#365550) for a wider audience who would no doubt have a field day with it.

Did someone say my name?

In case you were really curious, mr. glove sir, I do try to my best to contribute and raise the level of discourse on this forum… which, alas, can require quite a bit of time! But when I’m in the mood for a little juvenile socializing, I typically take that off-line and enjoy that in the real world … rather than seeking out my “cyber-buddies”.

(But hey, if I lived in a society where 99% of the locals couldn’t communicate with me fluently and viewed me as a perpetual foreigner… maybe I’d spend more time online, too! )

I find this thread to be rather representative:

… this particular group of Taiwanese nationalists bemoan the fact Taiwan still uses Hanzi… alas, their complaints can only be written in Hanzi! Oh, what a conundrum.

But you STILL haven’t told us which one is your favorite Taiwan SAR flag. And here I was throwing you a bone. :raspberry:

Nah, this is better: natpa.org/phpBB/files/prckmt_148.jpg
(4 small stars plus KMT logo - where else except at the bottom - surrounding a big star)

Whichever is finally chosen, I’m sure it’ll look great flying over Taipei 101!

More seriously, when reunification finally occurs 3-5 decades from now, I think it’s much more likely that mainland China + Taiwan will continue to fly their current flags. Mainland China will continue to fly its 5-star flag, and Taiwan will fly its 青天白日满地红 (clear skies, white sun, and a field of red).

Alongside both will fly some yet to be determined national flag… which will be the flag used in international events ranging from the UN to the Olympics, and by the combined armed forces. This is the suggestion the Chinese leadership has already thrown out there… first reported in the Washington Post 5-6 years ago, no less.

Tee hee. They remind me of the fervently Marxist teenagers you meet who are attending expensive public schools and whose parents are millionnaire nouveau riche. “Oh look Toby! The subscwiption to Socialist Worker that mumsie bought me for Cwistmass has awived!”

Well, let’s look at a few examples.

Hong Kong:

Hong Kong Special Administrative Region of the People’s Republic of China:

Macau:

Macau Special Administrative Region of the People’s Republic of China:

Taiwan:

Taiwan Special Administrative Region of the People’s Republic of China:

Or some variation thereof.
Take your pick or make up a new one, just be sure to get rid of the highly offensive white sun reminder of China’s precommunist past and emblem of a defunct party destined to be swallowed by the CCP (but I’ll bet you can keep the red). Also, be sure to work in five stars, just like the other SAR flags. To expect otherwise would be more than a little naive. Not that retaking the mainland and reunification under democratic principles for economic purposes ever were…

And where’s ac? I thought for sure he’d be all over this thread like a polyester suit and flip flops.

Which is why you’re posting here too…you might look it, you might speak & read better than me…but you don’t fit in all the way either…

I always find Taiwan’s flag more aesthetically pleasing than the PRC one, both in terms of patterns and colors.

I also think that it would be nice to change the name “China” after Taiwan joins China. I’d pick “Middle Kindom”.

Middle Kindom would consist of: the Mainland, Taiwan, Hongkong, and Macau.

We should have a poll on different name possibilities as well.

There’ve been a ton of such polls in Chinese nationalist forums on the mainland. There’ve been polls along the lines of:

  • which flag should we use after reunification,
  • which national title should we use. (With surprisingly sympathetic support for zhonghua minguo; Mao Zedong reportedly said he regretted renaming the ROC after 1949.)
  • whether we should use simplified or traditional characters in a reunified China.

But anyways. I don’t see any reason to rename “China” etc… in the Romantic languages. That’s a good name for the country, dating all the way back to when the Romans first came into trade contact with the original Qin dynasty 2000 years ago. In Chinese, the short-name will always be zhongguo. No one’s ever changing that.

As far as the long official name… I really don’t care. But uhm, how about… zhonghua lianheguo?

I just saw this thread in TVBS … anywone can comment on what they said there?
