Wack Things in Taiwan 2024

They take their kids with them on their machomen missions to cross high water rivers. What can we expect. Anyway, I’ve heard there are too many babies and too few scooters to be a problem.

At least get the kids some helmets, crazy how many children have no helmets

And the cars, don’t forget about the cars lining up at the funeral.

And for some reason parents carrying small kids on scooters seem to be among the most reckless!

That baby in the photo has no helmet. When they are that young it’s not practical to wear a helmet either.

Yep, they couldn’t wear a helmet I reckon.

The fact that there is zero regulation around babies and toddlers on scooters is kind of baffling.

Technically you need to wear a helmet and you can’t have more than two people, but I think that’s it. There are lots of government resources suggesting you should not ride a scooter with a small child, but as far as I know, it is technically legal if they have a helmet.

It’s the same in the UK. Children can ride pillion, no minimum age. They have to wear a helmet, though.

Unless they are a Sikh - then wearing a turban is an acceptable alternative apparently

Or even “maybe I should just wait this one out”. I guess it was panic mode.

Nice to see cross party consensus. We don’t get that very often.

In the UK, pillion passengers (those riding as passengers on motorcycles or scooters) must adhere to the following rules:

1.The pillion passenger must be at least 12 years old.

  1. Both the rider and the pillion passenger are legally required to wear a helmet that meets British safety standards.

  2. The pillion passenger must sit on a proper seat, securely fixed behind the rider.

4 The motorcycle must be equipped with footrests for the pillion, and the passenger must be able to reach and use them.

5.The rider must hold a full motorcycle licence (not a provisional licence) to legally carry a pillion passenger.

6.Passengers must sit astride the bike, facing forward, and should hold on to the rider or the grab rails. They should not cause any instability or obstruct the rider’s control of the vehicle.

These rules are designed to ensure safety for both the rider and the pillion passenger.

Really? I thought there was no minimum age limit for riding pillion.

My apologies you are right, While the law does not prescribe a minimum age, most safety organisations, like the UK’s Department for Transport, recommend that pillion passengers should be at least 12 years old.

Babies should not be on a scooter.

Interesting that wife talks about such murders and similar cases whenever I tell her to quit spending so much money…

It’s perfectly fine! Knew I had an old case somewhere…reported for not having a helmet and the option “載運人客、貨物不穩妥,行駛時顯有危險” (The transportation of passengers or cargo was unstable, and there was evident danger while driving.).

Fined for not having a helmet, so far so good.

With regards to the unsafe carrying of a passenger, no fine was issued as “影像經檢視後,該違規人無法像臺端駕駛車輛附載乘客,然該機車附載座人依規定固定在嬰兒背帶上,由目前影像顯示載運人客並無不穩妥之情事,故本案不予以舉發” (After reviewing the footage, it is confirmed that the person in violation was not driving the vehicle with passengers as described. Instead, the motorcycle passenger was securely fastened according to regulations using a baby carrier. Since the footage currently shows that the passenger was transported safely and there were no issues with stability, this case will not be cited.)

TLDR - It’s perfectly fine and reasonable.

But any pillion must be able to hold on and feet must touch the peddles.

Edit: @Firefighter I see you already mentioned that (and corrected the age limit)

Some insurance company’s also stipulate a minimum age for pillions , have to check your policy.

cockroaches, haven’t had any in my apartment for ages. Today had a massive one that took a good 30 seconds worth of raid before it stopped trying to escape under different doors and behind things.

Then it took two flushes of the toilet to disappear. First time it bobbled back again like a floater.
