Wack Things in Taiwan 2025

Because of the overload of the electrical network?

That’s a new one. Why, pray tell?

A Vietnamese man forgot a bag with NT$4 million cash on the train. :upside_down_face:

Well, I’d personally apply it to all SUVs for being antisocially large but without really any significant upsides to it’s size other than some headspace. Hatchback and Station Wagon do the same. But I’m not sure that’s why Rooney feels that way.

Perhaps something to do with Musk towing the CCP’s line on Taiwan so he can sell more cars on the mainland?

They are basically just show off cars here. That makes you a C word in itself, especially if its a big tank sized car such as a le se la.

Not only do Taiwanese not know about musks connections, factories in China and what he is on record as saying about Taiwan. They are also completely out of the loop about his recent activities.

Like I said, ignorant C words. I’m not even slightly surprised to see a Taiwanese Tesla owner demanding a child to pay up and get her parents to lick his boots or whatever.

Looks like a model 3 in the picture, hardly a big vehicle.

 Have you ever watched local news or read a local newspaper?

Are u having a laugh mate, they are all tank sized thats the point. You can feel like a big man by driving your stupidly huge car around tiny alleyways, and then demanding children to pay you while at school.

Yea I see the news but ive also asked basically everyone i know in Taiwan about Le se la. Nobody knows anything about them or musk they just think its a flash car thats it.

 A model 3 is about the same size as an Altis!

 Not surprised as they’re known as 特斯拉 (TĆØ sÄ« lā) in Taiwan not

Might want to widen your circle a bit/lot.

Maybe he’s being punny calling it a åžƒåœ¾ę‹‰

I’d say most cars in Taiwan are stupidly huge.
Not just Tesla.
I haven’t really seen many city cars in Taiwanese cities.

By city cars, I mean something like this:

The Solio was a big hit. I mean, resold value held pretty well …if you found anyone willing to part from it.

Mini Cooper was quite popular until an actress crashed in the highway and the car was blamed for her death. It did not stand well against a semi.

Face it: cars here are driven down South highways, over mountain passes, to load up the extended family for outings. City cars are for prestige - foreign officials or big honchos visiting, convenience - taxi, Ubers, and family. Hence, the little itty city car does not have much of a market.

I personally would love a Smart. Used to drive a tiny Peugeot. But when I see the buses and trucks here…I think I’d like a Volvo.

First, there is a connection between having high self-esteem and buying expensive things. When one’s self-worth is low, people purchase luxury items.

…

Is it legal to install rally style cages and better seatbelts into cars here in Taiwan? For a person with an able body it might be a good option.
For someone with difficulties to move easily not really.

Have you seen the scooters?

Yes, especially on the sidewalks.

Does anyone have idea, what is the thought process of supermarket clerks, when you put the products you are buying on the cash register moving belt, carefully (but swiftly) arrange them from the heaviest and sturdiest (like bottles with water or other beverages) to the lightest and the most fragile, but the cashier rearranges the order and keeps giving you the light fragile things first, so they can be crushed on the bottom of your shopping bag?
And when the cashier finally grabs a bottle and I think, that…finally…
Of course the next item is not another bottle (even if exactly the same item), but something fragile again…

In all my years here, I have never seen a cashier load up a bag for me. That’s my job. And I can arrange things just the way I like.

Guy

I mean…the order of how the cashiers give me the already scanned items.
Either I need to wait for the heavy ones or to put the fragile on the bottom to get crushed.
Also, if I the cashiers are asked for bags, they give them like…in the middle of scanning the items, not as the very first item(s) of all.
So you don’t have anywhere to put the products.
(But today we brought our own.)

Good move. I always bring a backpack or something similar for this purpose.

Onward and upward!

Guy

Depends on the place I guess. The clerks at the organic store are far more careful than I am. Normal supermarket like PX Mart or Carrefour I do it myself.

I tried doing my own packing in the old country and the clerks were…taken aback.
