It’s traditional.

The really whack thing is they’re paying for an ad which say “HERE IS OUR PRODUCT, YOU CAN’T BUY IT”.

I saw him! I thought it was a homeless begger so I just looked the other way lol. Glad to have it cleared up.

Before Chinese New Years saw on TV news a temple was placing fireworks on a street. They had a truck full of fireworks. One guy sat in back of truck and threw fireworks on the street…looked like a box of fireworks every 10 meters. Another guy lit the fireworks with a blowtorch. The whole damn street was a blanket of smoke. Interviewed a lady working at a store on the street. She said they had already made one pass along the street and this was second time around. She said could not do any business as the smoke was so bad. The report showed a motorcycle copy showing up and kicking the yet unlit boxes of fireworks to the side of the road and yelling at the guy in the truck. Interviewed a rep from the temple who showed off his sweeping skills as he swept up very small pieces of rubbish at his temple.

These fireworks/firecracker stories describe amateurs. Have yous ever been to the 鹽水蜂炮 (YenShuei beehive?) before? I have been on fire there before, nearly suffocated by a string of firecrackers “lassoed” around my head, and witness to a diversity of tomfoolery there (in my younger years).

At least you chose to partake in firecracker madness. I started hating fireworks when I was living in Neihu. A few times when I was going to a park to exercise the whole street by the park was invaded by guys throwing fireworks everywhere. The whole street was covered in red firecracker debris and smoke. They had a lonely looking guy sweeping up perhaps 10% of the red paper all over the road. This was near the temple which had bottle rockets flying everywhere which caused a guy walking home to lose his eye.

Wow that escalated quickly…that’s so unlucky. I wonder if he received any compensation.

Hard to decide if this should be in the wack thread or the shitty traffic thread. Riding my bike down Keelung Road, this bus would be behind me then speed forward and cut me off to slam on his breaks in front of me at the bus stop. He did it 3 times. I got to the large intersection at Xinhai Rd and noticed a man on my right up against the temporary construction wall obviously peeing. Not the first time I’ve seen old men peeing in public during the day but when I passed the bus I noticed the door was open and there was no driver?! Turned around to see that the guy who almost ran into me 3 times had abandoned his bus at the light to go piss. What the fuck

You thinking he was trying to kill you and he was just trying to get to his favourite spot.

I do not remember if he received compensation. I do remember the following year people complained about the fireworks from this temple because the fireworks hit their apartment windows. My guess is people nearby the temple finally got less scared to same something about the danger. No one likes to be the one to complain about a temple’s activities.

This little girl is even more amazing than the adults around her!

Woman choked, no one knew how to do first aid! 11-year-old girl instantly stepped forward and performed a Heimlich maneuver to save her.

I guess the person ordering the sign had a kiwi accent.

Why does the food have to be left out all bloody day?

I just got told I have to eat bai bai food later.

Is this going to be a thing I have to just start dodging to avoid a dodgy stomach ?

Why would you have to eat it? Someone is having you on. If they’re serious, reject

Bai bai food is not healthy. Just say you’re Christian and don’t eat food tainted by idolatry.

My office building had baibai food and a person said everybody needs to eat for luck of the building… So I brought up a case of beer to my office

A video has surfaced of a rude group of people in Kaohsiung who brought in their own large communal pots of food to eat at a coffee shop. They sat in a semi-outdoors space owned by the coffee shop and talked loudly as they guzzled down on the food brought in from outside.

Grab a bag of guai guai or a heisong or something. Nice move grabbing the beer!
