Since my wife is Taiwanese and does not speak very good English, but I have so many great shows that I want here to see, I have been looking for subtitles for quite some time now with no luck.
What I’m especially looking for is subtitles for Penn & Tellers Bullshit and QI (Quite Interesting).
I’ve used Google, Yahoo, Baidu, searched in both Chinese and English but so far my only success has been 4-5, 2-minute clips from QI (CHT) and screenshots from 1 episode of Bullshit about cheerleaders (CHS) but no success in downloading even that 1 episode.
So my question would be, has anyone ever come across subtitles for these shows?
Or has anyone gone through the trouble of translating by them self and could maybe share? (about the only option I can think of, personally I just don’t have the time to translate and make my own subtitles)
(Of course taking English subtitles and running them through any translator program/site is out of the question since they never get anything right)
I’m pretty certain that most (if not all) dvd/blu-ray of shows found locally comes with chinese subtitles, so it’s a safe bet you’ll find what you’re looking for at your nearest video/movie rental store.
Good luck!

Thanks for your reply.
Unfortunately I’ve already tried that, and none of the stores I’ve been to have neither had them nor could they find anything about them when searching (both on their system and various search engines)
(I’ve also personally searched on various video stores websites, also with no luck)
I’m really confused why they are so hard to find.
It’s not like they’re very new or obscure, especially not bullshit.
I mean who haven’t seen / heard about bullshit? (*westerners)
And QI has been getting quite popular as well.
You want Chinese subtitles for English shows? If they are not popular and currently running, you are pretty much out of luck.
I would suggest though, the best way for your wife to improve her English is to watch the shows with ENGLISH subtitles. There’s a pretty easy way to do that if you don’t own the DVDs.
Step 1. Install Ubuntu Linux
Step 2. sudo apt-get smplayer
Step 3. Open your video file with smplayer, as long as you didn’t change the file name, there’s a search for subtitle function that goes into subtitle databases
Step 4. Click on one of the suggestions and done
Or just search online, I am sure English sub-titles are every where.
Weird, from memory I can recall seeing subtitled copies of many wide ranging shows (some good, some not so good) available on the shelves of video stores, including but not limited to: the office, 30 rock, dexter, new girl, two and a half men, grey’s anatomy, mad men, glee, entourage, macgyver, csi, csi: new york, csi: miami, lost, 24, house, the big bang theory… etc etc.
But I think hansioux might have something there. Let us know how it goes!
yyets.com/ have Chinese subtitles for just about every semi-popular American movie or TV show. Most of them are done by local fan groups. Subtitles for the more popular shows like Breaking Bad or Walking Dead are up literally hours after the episode airs.
That being said, I searched and couldn’t find subtitles for Bullshit or QI. I’ve only seen a couple episodes of QI and I can’t imagine that sort of humor would appeal to many Taiwanese, or at least those who wouldn’t be able to understand it with English subtitles. In general, my wife doesn’t get any of the comedies that we’ve watched with downloaded subtitles, like 30 Rock or Community, but she loves all the dramas.
Thanks for all the replies, I’m very grateful!
However it seems most people either missed or misunderstood what I initially wrote in my first post. I’ll try and clarify some points.
My wife speaks little to zero English (i.e. English subtitles might as well be in Japanese for all she would understand (actually probably better with Japanese because of kanji) but yeah I think you get my point…)
I’m well aware of shooter.cn excellent site I and use it pretty much daily for movies, but no luck there for bullshit & QI.
I’ve used Google, Yahoo and Baidu, searched in both Chinese and English. no luck there except 4-5, 2-minute clips from QI (CHT) and screenshots from 1 episode of Bullshit about cheerleaders (CHS) but no success in downloading even that 1 episode.

Note to rockefeller: Yes, they actually do have a pretty wide selection of shows, They’ve had all of the shows you listed, just not the ones I’m currently looking for.
The reason I want Bullshit and QI is not for the humor, it’s for the “interesting side”, since you both of them are more focused on the “documentary” aspect with lot’s of interesting facts.
(As I mentioned I’ve managed to find 4-5 short clips from QI with subtitles and the wife found them very interesting and enjoyable, I love them both but haven’t watched them in quite a while since I want to share them with my wife, which is way I’m going through so much effort to find subtitles (otherwise I’d just watch them by myself))
So essentially what it all comes down to probably is;
Unless someone has personally translated them, seen them on some obscure website which ordinary mortals can’t find, found them on some market in Taiwan or Mainland, it’s probably a no go.
But please, any advise is helpful (except things listed above of course)
My suggestion would be to check if these shows are available online on any of the chines streaming portals. As long as you have a Chinese IP address (and Taiwanese should count, hehe), they seem to be relatively legal.
