WCIF Terry’s Chocolate Orange?

$199!?!?

Doubled price!

Crazy

I made the long trek down to the Tienmu Carrefour to get a couple chocolate oranges.

My holiday shopping is complete. Special thanks to @tempogain who first alerted us to the location.

@MalcolmReynolds what’s your preferred method of consumption? Peeling the segments off one-by-one, or as the box on the left encourages, getting overly aggressive and hulk-smashing it into the floor, breaking all the segments into a fine powder which you then have to go hunting underneath all the furniture for?

On Saturday, I swung by the Tienmu Carrefour, where I picked up a box of the dark chocolate version of Terry’s Chocolate Orange. I sampled it yesterday and today. If anyone cares, here’s my assessment.

On the plus side: it’s made in France, the “slices” make it very easy to share, and it’s not expensive (NT$99 at the aforementioned Carrefour).

On the minus side: as a “dark chocolate,” it’s very sweet (sugar is listed as the first ingredient), and it tastes somewhat industrial, a bit cloying, almost plastic like. I came away thinking that a random selection at a well-stocked convenience store in Taiwan would likely be just as good if not better than this.

Which takes me back to the plus side: there’s some good stuff in Taiwan’s convenience stores now!

Guy

That would be a pretty good advert!

Random selection in a well stocked convenience store, what are you talking about

I admit this sounds harsh.

Perhaps I have been spoiled lately with Family Mart’s recent collaboration with Yu Chocolatier (discussed the HOT CHOCOLATE WARS thread) and their current collaboration with Chocolat Michel Cluizel of France.

I’d take either before cracking open another one of these Terry Balls.

Guy

I have deeply ingrained fond memories of chocolate oranges. On this journey through time I’d see them as one of the good things.
Like Indiana Jones, and santa. And the caramel rabbit.

Or for North Americans, perhaps a Big Mac from McDonald’s.

Try one of them as an adult, and I believe you will understand.

Guy

I used to crave Hersey’s chocolate due to how munchy it looked in the movies. Until I actually ate it. Lol.

Hershey’s tear drops are nice alright though

Yes that’s close to the mark. It seems like a good idea, until it’s not.

Enjoy your evening!

Guy

Apparently they have better chocolate in Belgium. What are you going to do

Have some more chocolate orange slices

I saw this at carrefour the other day. The big one in Datong

Carrefour Xinzhuang $99

I was just at the Carrefour in Tamsui and I can confirm that they have the Terry’s Chocolate Orange here. Not a huge amount like in the Tien-Mu store, but at least they’re here for only $99 each. And since Discourse has been updated, I can upload the pictures I just took with my iPhone! Bonus!

Also at carrefour Datong (the big one near ningxia night market)

Having sampled a Terry Ball, I’d now take the butter waffles pictured below eleven times out of ten.

Guy

This is fantastic news to see they’re sold here. Good Sherlocking.

I just brought one back from the UK, but as soon as I finished it I regretted not buying more. No need to fret anymore though! Thanks.
