WCIF Terry’s Chocolate Orange?

That’s a weird coincidence. I bought one from Carrefour a few months back, and as soon as I’d finished it I regretted buying one.

(It wasn’t as good as I’d remembered.)

Remember that things showing up here may not last long here. Yes, they’re in stock now - but next week? Or ever again?

I’m with Andrew on this one—especially as the quality of the chocolates available here has improved.

Guy

It’s kind of an odd split on this, like with cilantro. I like them! It’s mass market chocolate but good.

I actually used to like them when I was younger. It’s one of several food items I’ve had over the last few years that made me think my taste buds have matured over the last decade or two (pu’er tea, red wine, strong cheese, and coconuts, which I used to dislike but now quite like, are among the others - I’ve also become less fussy in general since living in Asia, but chocolate oranges are one of the few things where my perception has apparently gone in the opposite direction).

Generally I like plain, quality dark chocolate. I eat a fair amount  (but I try not to go nuts!) Maybe it’s possible some of you got the milk chocolate one; I can’t speak for that. I’m not on that team. The dark chocolate one seems like orange flavored mass-market dark chocolate, smooth and pretty sweet, the orange flavor is pleasant, not anything objectionable about it to my taste.

I prefer milk chocolate in general (dark is also okay, as long as it’s not too dark), but for me I think it was the orange flavor I mostly objected to - it tasted more synthetic than I remember, and I became concerned that I might not be able to count the chocolate orange as one of my five fruits a day.

I think I found it slightly too sweet, too, to the point of being a bit sickly.

My fellow Forumosans,

It ain’t about the quality of the chocolate.

It’s the memories of being a little Jewish boy and excitedly waking up on Christmas morning to find a Terry’s Chocolate Orange in my stocking hung by the chimney with care! It was the only time we could eat chocolate in the morning before a proper breakfast.

When Chanukah arrived, we got one also!

Terry’s Chocolate Orange brings back wonderful memories of my dear departed mother who took great joy in procuring them from the old country since they weren’t easily found in the US back in the 50s and 60s and her seeing the joy in the kids’ faces when we received them. In fact, they were probably the first things we looked for as we rifled through Santa’s gifts.

Terry’s Chocolate Orange was even a tradition for my own parents when they were kids. After all, it was created in 1932.

Definitely nothing about the quality of the chocolate.

Everything about memories and TRADITION!

Anyway…

With all due respect…

But curious now, will buy one when I see it in Carrefour

Amen.

Well folks. It’s that time of the year again.

Carrefour has Terry’s Chocolate Orange in stock and this year there are two additional kinds.

Milk chocolate

Dark chocolate

White chocolate (new)

Exploding (new)

I haven’t tried the new white chocolate or the exploding yet, so I can’t give you a review. I’m not even sure what “exploding” would entail. Perhaps it has pressurized carbon dioxide gas bubbles embedded inside of the chocolate creating a popping or bubbling sensation when consumed.

The price has increased from $109 last year to $129. But, in last year in late January the prices dropped to $99 for the remaining stock. So, prices could drop sometime after New Year.

Merry Christmas and Happy Chanukah!

@miamidice I remember you liked these too.

Thanks for the heads-up man. I really miss these things and am going to get one now

Hey folks,

Do me a favor? The next time you go on a shopping run to Carrefour would you please check to see if your branch has any Terry’s Chocolate Oranges?

I missed them last year as they apparently only stocked a very limited amount and mostly only the dark chocolate ones. I prefer the milk chocolate, but Taiwanese only eat dark chocolate I guess as that’s the main chocolates that are stocked. Dark, dark, dark!

I’ve usually found them at the TienMu branch, but last year the limited stock sold out before December 15th!

Perhaps with the acquisition of Carrefour by a Taiwanese company we won’t get them anymore. Maybe I’ll have to switch to the Taiwanese favorite pork floss orange chocolate or matcha orange chocolate. Of course with my shitty luck it would end up being dark chocolate!

Houdini says, “Dark chocolate sucks!”

Did you feed dark chocolate to your dog? You know it’s poison to them?

Snakes on a plane.

Raining kittens.

Popped down to the pub for a pint.

Going to arrest a man for that?

Going to detain a blighter for enjoying his whisKEY?

Bangers and mash!

Bubbles and squeak!

Smoked eel pie!

I’ve got a bunch of lovely coconuts! Here they, are standing in a row! Small ones, big ones, some as big as your head!

@Taiwan_Luthiers, it looks like you’ve broken @MalcolmReynolds. :whistle: :sweat_smile:

He’s lasted longer than others of us have …

I would be curious about the orange with white chocolate. But kind of turned off the artificial taste comments.
