Wedding Songs

Our Taiwan wedding had no dancing obviously and our Canadian wedding was very small so we basically all just got pissed and danced to god knows what but our real song is Astrud Gilberto’ So Nice. It’s the one we used in our wedding video.

Someone to hold me tight
That would be very nice
Someone to love me right
That would be very nice
Someone to understand
Each little dream in me
Someone to take my hand
And be a team with me

So nice, life would be so nice
If one day I’d find
Someone who would take my hand
And samba through life with me

Someone to cling to me
Stay with me right or wrong
Someone to sing to me
Some little samba song
Someone to take my heart
And give his heart to me
Someone who’s ready to
Give love a start with me

Oh yeah, that would be so nice
I could see you and me, that would be nice

Someone to hold me tight
That would be very nice
Someone to love me right
That would be very nice
Someone to understand
Each little dream in me
Someone to take my hand
To be a team with me
So nice, life would be so nice
If one day I’d find
Someone who would take my hand
And samba through life with me

Someone to cling to me
Stay with me right or wrong
Someone to sing to me
Some little samba song
Someone to take my heart
And give his heart to me
Someone who’s ready to
Give love a start with me

Oh yes, that would be so nice
Shouldn’t we, you and me?
I can see it will be nice…

“Hey Joe” by Jimi Hendrix

“Highway to Hell” - AC/DC ?

Guns N Roses - Used to Love Her

Funeral march?

I was married in the USA first and that was planned by my family. It was in a park and the food was prepared by family. There was no music. But it was alright.

We left for Taiwan a few days later. Her family prepared the 'ban de" or “her xi jiu”. It was horrendous. And no one prepared me for anything. I wore something close to a tuxedo – black and white, black bow tie, silk vest. However, my father-in-law grimaced at me and disdainfully told me “You look like a waiter.”

And I wish someone would have told me that they were going to play the them from Superman (the movie) Star Wars.

On top of that, all the red envelopes went to father-in-law. A few thousands made it to wifeys hands as close friends in the know gave her the red envelope on the sly – in the changing room.

My friend’s sister was going to get married. The bride to be protested to her father “I don’t want any strippers at my wedding ! Please daddy! It’s my wedding!” father : “Who is paying? Me. I want strippers. There are going to be la mei and that’s final.”

[quote]Later, my family sang Pokarekareana.

Māori:
Pōkarekare ana
ngā wai o Waiapu,
Whiti atu koe hine
marino ana e.
E hine e
hoki mai ra,
Ka mate ahau
I te aroha e.

Tuhituhi raku reta
tuku atu taku rīngi,
Kia kite tō iwi
raru raru ana e.

E hine e
hoki mai ra,
Ka mate ahau
I te aroha e.

Whati whati taku pene
ka pau aku pepa,
Ko taku aroha
mau tonu ana e.

E hine e
hoki mai ra,
Ka mate ahau
I te aroha e.

E kore te aroha
e maroke i te rā,
Mākūkū tonu i
aku roimata e.

E hine e
hoki mai ra,
Ka mate ahau
I te aroha e.

Billy Connolly sings a really beautiful song at the end of each episode of his New Zealand tour TV series. I wonder if this might be it. Lovely.

Frank Sinatra - The Way You Look Tonight

Some day, when I’m awfully low,
When the world is cold,
I will feel a glow just thinking of you…
And the way you look tonight.

Yes you’re lovely, with your smile so warm
And your cheeks so soft,
There is nothing for me but to love you,
And the way you look tonight.

With each word your tenderness grows,
Tearing my fear apart…
And that laugh that wrinkles your nose,
It touches my foolish heart.

Lovely … Never, ever change.
Keep that breathless charm.
Won’t you please arrange it ?
'Cause I love you … Just the way you look tonight.

Mm, Mm, Mm, Mm,
Just the way you look to-night.
