Grisly crimes and traffic accidents (along with food porn) are basically the only things they show on local news, so you don’t exactly have to go out of your way to learn this stuff.

You did actually because most weren’t covered in the English papers. Perhaps because they were embarrassing or too graphic ?
I remember a famous case in Taichung of a lesbian brutally murdering another lesbian , not even one line in the English papers.
It’s only after the illustrious Taiwan News and Taiwan English News upped their game that we get to enjoy the local news like locals !

Indeed. TV news are like 5 gruesome car/scooter/truck/collisions or pedestrian accidents, plus 4 murders and one political news -we shouted a question to a greeen party member and he rfused to answer!
Most murder victims as noted are GF, followed by wives and then family members. This last item mostly mothers or close relatives who refuse to give money to some creep. Not many deviations from that sterotype.

kids (boys in particular) really are spoilt here. its something i’ve noticed more and more the longer i’m here.
i think you need more screws loose than just being raised as a spoilt brat to actually murder someone though.

Indeed, that is the worse part. I know too many of those who have escaped the arm of the law abroad, hide in Taiwan and keep on living la vida loca. Financed by parents. One wonders what will happen when the parents have no more money, or refuse to give it up.
Yeah. You only get the occasional mob hit. The gangsters are fairly civilized by comparison. 
Mostly mob fight. A pal was a mob hit here and that was many years ago. I bet ther eis one per year. Usually, them scare tactics are enough.
Kidnaps are rare. Daily ocurrence though is some idjit going to the bank in a panic, willing to transfer money because of an alleged kidnapping. Last one I saw on TV was a hoot,. The cop was probably fed up with trying to disuade the lady NOT to transfer and lost his sh**.
It’s amazing that people still fall for that one after so many years.
Parents just don’t realize they’re just breeding their own worst nightmare by spoiling the f out of their oldest.

So this doctor from a very prominent hospital starts a firestorm on the interweb because of a victim blaming post on FB, saying women are to blame for the recent spat of killings because they act like whores, and that the wolf teachers at school abusing the students are seduced by such students who throw themselves at them.
His comments were not exactly greeted warmly. the hospital in mention quickly set up a press conference to dissassociate from him.
Breaking news, netizens complaining about netizens are digging holes and jumping into them!
