What are families for?

Do you come from a functional family?

  • I’m not sure.
  • Yeah, it did the trick
  • Best family one could hope for
  • Some of it worked, some of it didn’t
  • My family doesn’t know the meaning of “functional”
  • I wish I was a clone, no mom, no dad, no bros and no sis
  • What does family mean?

What would your kid vote twenty years from now? What did you vote? Is there anyone looking up to you in your family?

Families are for anguing with…be it immediate family or the inlaws. And the family that i know only help eachother when it suits them or when they want something back in return.

Im a more look after youself kinda gal, families dont mean soooo much cos they will always let you down.

Dont ask me how my juniors with be influenced in later life, maybe alittle stronger so they can take care of themselves…

I voted for (2). But as for any of my wee sisters looking up to me? Jesus, I hope not! I don’t think any of them are quite that stupid. It’s kind of unfair having had such a functional family – I have no excuses for my disfunctionality. :homer:

Hmm…i do :s

After reading fu xiao’s response there, I realise that my post might sound glib and facetious, especially to anyone struggling with the results of a dysfunctional childhood. I apologise and didn’t mean to offend anyone.

What is family?
The very Bedrock of Society, or, A wicked and vile plot to sap us of our precious bodily fluids?
Either, or: it’s still The Thin Edge Of The Wedge.

We all should be glad we survived, more or less. A few hundred years ago and family life must have been one tuff cookie indeed. And yet, with all the pc crap the trickles down: i feel that future family life might be much, much worse.

IMHO, a family is something you make, not something you are born with or into.

YMMV

What’s functional? Two parent home with two incomes, but no one has time for each other? Or a single parent who slaves to make ends meet but always makes time for their kid? In this ever changing world, family are the ties that bind.

Don’t you just long for a simpler time? A time when the pater familias could kill his wife and sell his children into slavery?

I have a heart of stone…

fu xiao,

I for one understand what you are saying. I also like TheGingerMan’s post. Your posts sure ring a bell for me.
