What are the must-do hiking trails in Taiwan?

I enjoy hiking a lot (not a pro tho) but I’ve never done any hiking in Taiwan. So, I really want to cross it off my bucket list.

What easy/moderate trails would you recommend? Is it safe to hike alone in Taiwan?

Lots of easy day hikes. I go alone often, if I’m going somewhere that won’t have a cell signal or other people I tell a friend. These days the heat and rain keep me off the trails.

Longer hikes in the mountains I think require reservations/permits and a guide. I haven’t had the opportunity but it sounds amazing

Where are you based?

I am based in Taipei.
Day hikes are what I need! What are some of your favorite trails?

Simple trail. Only about 1 km

There are also others in the area. I often go on various ones. This is my favorite.

Accommodation, transportation, experienced guide etc all included.

Yangmingshan have lots of people on weekends walking so a bit safer if hiking alone. Nothing extremely challenging, except sunburns and heat now during summer so prepare lots of drinking water

I’m down in K-town, sorry :disappointed:

No worries! I am not only looking for Taipei, so if you know of any nice hiking trails in other places, feel free to share them with me.

I sent you a PM

I’ve always wanted to do the Batongguan trail, it’s an epic 5-6 day hike, perhaps the ultimate hike in Taiwan.

I like taking the bus and entering here Jungong Mountain trailhead and then can wander back towards Taipei by a variety of trails. Some have views, some are deep woods feeling. Exit via the Eco Park and quick access to mrt, mcdonald’s, Etc

Can go the other direction and spread out through elephant mountain area.
