What are you watching? (Film edition) [2009-2014]

Back when Singapore air had interesting movies, I saw that on a plane. It got so, so reviews, but I liked it alot.

Hey guys,

Been reading this forum for a while now so I thought I’d chip in:

Linda Linda Linda - Up there with Breakfast Club and Dazed and Confused as one the best high school flicks I ever saw. Genuinely had me laughing out loud.

If anyone would like some light comedy and a couple of hours of 70s and 80s nostalgia, check out guardians of the galaxy. Not bad.

…

Also, another movie I just watched that’s just epic and worth watching and makes you think

Snowpiercer http://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/snowpiercer/

Oh, that movie was good. Absolutely second the recommendation. Must see. Currently on rotation on cable.

I was like, gee, the Torch and Captain America in another sci fi movie. Did not notice the Korean director, who is awesome -The Host-. Then I caught it at the start… chills, chills…

I really enjoyed them:

 • Ju Dou
 • Raise the red lattern

Boyhood, by Richard Linklater (Dazed and Confused). Filmed over 12 years with the same cast

Ju Dou and Raise the red lantern. Loved them.

Recently re-watched Steve McQueen’s Bullitt (1968). Such a magnificent film, I can’t believe teenager me wasn’t too impressed by it.

Fincher’s Gone Girl is pretty dang awesome. Throughout the film you’ll hear quite a number of holy shits gasped from all around the theater.

WHITEY: U.S.A. vs. James J. Bulger

It shows a lot about the very recent relationship between the F.B.I. and organized crime in Boston, Mass.

Looking forward to interstellar:

Just watched Christopher Nolan’s Interstellar. You can definitely tell that it was a remarkable effort, and the visuals in the film are stunning. Neat.

Films I’ve watched recently(in two months or somethin’)

Gone with the Wind-
The book was so much better. Vivien Leigh was such a goddess though.

La Pianiste-
Super disturbing. Isabelle Huppert was incredible in it. My jaw literally dropped when she picked up a piece of paper covered with semen then put it under her nose. So gross.

All about Eve-
Awesome. Glamorous. Classic.

Vera Drake-
So sad. Superb performance by Imelda Staunton.

Cat on a Hot Tin Roof-
Paul Newman was unbelievably hot, those eyes were extraterrestrial. Elizabeth Taylor was impeccable as always.

Mary Poppins-
Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious.

Gods and Monsters-
Ian Mckellen should’ve won that Oscar.

Brokeback Mountain-
So gorgeous. The cinematography was out of this world, the cast was so great, the story was so beautiful. I just love this film so much.

The Triplets of Belleville-
Meh.

The Sessions-
The fact that Anne Hathaway won an Oscar for that disaster of a film(Les Miserables) is such a pathetic joke. Helen Hunt gave a round and natural performance in this film. She should’ve won on a cake walk.(Or Amy Adams should).

Transamerica-
Another victim of poor decision made by the Academy. Felicity Huffman was robbed big time. This film was hilarious and heart-warming.

Bridget Jone’s Diary-
There wasn’t anything to write home about other than how handsome Colin Firth was.

Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf-
Utter perfection.

The Wendell Baker Story. Fantastic soundtrack on an otherwise stupid film.

Primary Colours. Some brilliant performances. I was surprised how much Travolta didn’t even slightly suck.

Check out “Northern Soul”.

Jurassic Park is real!

I was so looking forward to watching The Crossing, but as they just opened the online bookings, they won’t show the 3D version, not even IMAX, here in Taiwan. Don’t know if yet, or later, or whatever, but all bookings are for “normal” 2D… which would be fine if the movie had not been promoted as a big, fancy 3D production. :fume:

Please tell me I’m wrong, though I fear I am not. When I was going to a nearby movie theater to ask if there was really no 3D, I overheard a couple saying that they had heard that the versions shown in China and Taiwan were different. Oh joy. Then the employees at the movie booth had a laugh at my expense regarding the 3D question. :s

Worse: they are showing the 3D and IMAX versions in China. Add insult to injury. :saywhat:

Saw this movie today. Superb acting. Superb movie. Real world and realistic and very moving ! Highly recommended. (too bad wife decided to see the Penguins of Madagascar instead, i told her she should see this one later.

This next one was very dark, very somber and depressing to the nth degree. The crowd was very still and true die hard scifi peeps. I was the only one in the audience making any noise. Wife went and saw some other flick (smart move)

NAMES of the movies would be helpful, Tommy, so that we can actually see what they are without having to click the links.

 did that on purpose to peek interest !! But yeah I got your drift.
