Your one-way skepticism might be alleviated with the assistance of google from time-to-time.
It’s easy to get a book published these days. And if you market it to the right place, woke stuperintendents and principals will jump all over it. hell, our MATH classes are supposed to align with culturally responsive education. yep. No shit.
Please elaborate.
All coursework has to align with culturally responsive education ahem standards. I usually point to our class of ENL kids from all over the world and go, “There ya go.”
But I have tenure.

It wasn’t even a very skeptical post! But neither of the books in that link strike me as pedophilic, or inappropriate for 7th-graders.
Makes sense.
From the article: “The novel “Lawn Boy” contains graphic descriptions of sex between men and children.”
You aren’t a teacher, are you?
In what way? Every other book chosen for students is done by committee. Tell me why black and brown kids don’t get Fly Guy, but do get How Granny Got the Vote Out!
I haven’t read the book, so I can’t be sure, but:
Some of the passages in the book were considered to be depictions of pedophilia by the parents who spoke at the meetings in both Texas and Virginia.[7] Evison, responding to the allegations, explained that the scene in the book “involves an adult man recalling a sexual encounter he had with another fourth-grader when he was in fourth grade.”[8] According to the author of the book, after news began spreading about the challenge at the Texas school district, he started to receive death threats.[8][9]
I just meant that your explanation made sense.
Let’s say that’s accurate…in what way is that appropriate for kids as young as 11?
Yeah, I got that, but I don’t think it makes sense at all. One activist principal with an agenda. ![]()
We’ve moved from “I think you’re making it up” it’s not happening to ‘it’s happening but it’s not a big deal’.
Stage three is ‘ten year old kids must read books with adult males describing oral sex they had as children’. Eesh!
The library at my combined middle/highschool in the UK had a fair number of books with sex in them, including very explicit trash like Danielle Steele. No one really seemed to think much of it.
I’d probably have some reservations if it were on the curriculum for 11-year-olds, but that doesn’t seem to be the case there.
Yep, still at the ‘it’s not a big deal’ stage. At least we’ve got past the ‘it’s not true’ stage. Progress of a sort.
Why would you ever want a book in a library for kids which depicts sex among 8 year olds?
Or a graphic novel which has pictures (animated, obviously) of people having sex?
It’s insane.
My first post in this thread was to say I can easily believe it’s happening, so this is an odd line to take. Still, don’t you have some curiosity as to whether the provided examples match the narrative?
I would post the pictures from Gender Queer, but it is against forum rules.
I agree that one probably isn’t appropriate for 11-year-olds. I’d be fine with it at highschool.
I will. Let @Mick rule on it.
I don’t think high school kids need to see images of little kids getting bjs either.
It’s been a while now. Telling that you haven’t noticed.
