What can be done with an ATM and cash card reader like this?

Can you view your cash card/yoyo card transactions, receipts, etc.?

Can you actually do any transactions?

What software is needed if any?

It is what you can use to do e banking from the confort of your home. Plug it into your laptop, connect to your bank´s or post office website, and you can do transfers payments and other stuff.

You can also use it to withdraw money and print it at home.
The issue is to find someone who accepts the money you’ve printed…

You can sell it to tourists at a discount. They tend to be less picky.

Can you view things like:

  • your cash card/yoyo card transactions and receipts?
  • NHI card information?
  • ATM card information?
  • Any card with a chip information if you know pass code?

Can you add money to a debit card from your bank account?

Can help you file taxes online (after reading NHI card)

Can help you pay your taxes online.

I think NHI too , but most websites for hospitals just need your number for appointments and such.

  • your cash card/yoyo card transactions and receipts?

Those use RFID.

  • NHI card information?

Yes, but most information is stored in your health profile which is not stored on the card.

  • ATM card information?

Encrypted information. But some banks provide software where they secure their online banking with card and pin.

  • Any card with a chip information if you know pass code?

You can store many things on a smart card. Depends on the use case.

  • Can you add money to a debit card from your bank account?

Not with this. But an ATM is basically a normal computer with a card reader.

Bump / grave dig. I guess I want a card reader so I can do bank transfers on my computer at home, because that’s what I need to do to buy craft beer (from Red Point at least). Are these readers basically commodity items, and it doesn’t matter what I get? Or are there good versus bad ones?

I dunno if it’s just me, but I feel a little nervous plugging a cheap mysterious piece of plastic into my computer in order to send money directly out of my bank account.

Or is there another way to do the transfers? I just tried to set up my Fubon account for this, and the next step is downloading software for a card reader, so I assume I need one.

I think this, basically. There are loads on Shopee for NT$200-300, and I would just stick with a popular seller and one of the major local electronics brands like Kinyo. Many of them have pictures showing them being used with NHI cards and local bank cards. I bought one of these. I think you can get them in many convenience stores too.

I wouldn’t have thought you needed one to do a simple bank transfer (I never have), at least up to NT$50k or so, but maybe it depends on the bank. The only time I remember being asked to use a card reader would be if I wanted to pay somebody else’s bill using my bank account where the ID number would be different.

Also, you can buy craft beer directly from Red Point? How? Nothing seems to show up on the website. (Perhaps there’s an age verification aspect there too?)

You can buy beer directly from any brewery, easiest way is messaging their sales person directly. Second, is looking for their Line official account and ordering.

Uh … good question. Fubon told me to download software to open transfer services. But now I’m avoiding that option and setting up an account to transfer. And it’s letting me?! I wonder if this will work! I’m at a page now where I can theoretically transfer money (they gave me account number etc.), but obviously I’m not going to click “Confirm” just yet.

I’ve got a long history of being stymied by efforts at transfers, perhaps because I originally set up the accounts to be too secure, or perhaps because of the limits of the post office account my salary goes into.

Yeah, via LINE: I emailed them ages ago, and they promptly emailed back with a LINE contact. Tonight I finally got around to adding them as a contact and corresponded with their AI which gave me a price list (all via LINE messages). Yes, they deliver, but the whole process isn’t exactly convenient. I’d be a lot happier if I could just get their bottles and cans in shops, but that doesn’t seem to be how Taiwan works.

Their website isn’t helpful, no. Maybe because of Taiwan law, maybe because all commerce seems to take place in Instagram or Facebook (I use neither) or LINE. For example, the beers they’ve listed in the LINE messages don’t match what’s on their website; Google leads me to Instagram pages I can’t access.

Whatever is on Line is probably correct. If you need help ordering from Redpoint, let me know.

The website just seems to give info for people interested in distribution or contract brewing, so quite large scale. Though I’m not sure how much @lostinasia is typically ordering…

Can I join this party?

I’ve only used my Fubon account to pay my Fubon credit card bill so I couldn’t say for sure, but I think you should be able to do it with just the account number and no card reader up to a certain limit (with my other accounts it seems to be around NT$50k before I need to register the recipient).

Yup, the website is misleading. Via LINE, let’s see … cans & bottles in the $105 to $140 range; delivery is NT$100, but free if you order 24 or more items. Which would last me a while, but I don’t think it’s excessive.

EDIT: I find it all odd. With the right secret steps, and if you have the secret knowledge, ordering is I suppose somewhat convenient once you know what you’re doing. But finding that out isn’t easy!

Website are mostly worthless the way breweries do business in Taiwan. It’s very personal, most bars order directly through salespeople. B2C customers usually need to reach out through Line or via a contact from visiting a brewery’s own bar.

That doesn’t sound too bad and I like Red Point. Though I’m not sure about the wisdom of starting to order cases of beer to home…
