What exactly happens at AIT?

I went to AIT (American Institute in Taiwan) in Neihu the other day for a notary appointment. I noticed that the complex actually looks pretty massive. It’s much larger than any “embassy” I’ve seen. While I know members of this forum aren’t going to know the confidential details of what goes on day-to-day, does anyone know what they might be doing that requires such a large space? Has AIT always been this big even before the new facility?

They actually integrated everything into one building instead of scattered around Taipei.

It’s like Willy Wonka’s Chocolate Factory in there. Taiwanese bearers of “golden tickets” (materials they THINK will earn them a visa) meet horrific ends…

They make you turn in all of your electronics to them before entering so for all we know this could be happening!

Need a big enough space to hide the Marines/SEALs…jk.

What happens in AIT stays in AIT.

It’s a CIA/NSA listening post.

As most embassies are …

Probably the most realistic answer.

The old facility was pretty big too, considering all other embassies of EU countries are little more than a tiny office.

Dunno, the one in the old country is like 3, maybe 5 times the size of the one here.

Nothing to see move along now …

Need plenty of room to train the paramilitary death squads. :sunglasses:

No, those have their own campus. They do have a large garrison stationed there, we already bombed the old location twice before.

Correct

It’s similar to most American embassies. It houses diplomats and administration and military and security personnel. Make of that what you will.

It would be fun to fly a drone over it and find out.

It would be fun to get arrested and fined a gazillion zillion?
