What happened to 'City Jungle' in the Shilin night market?!?

I did a search but couldn’t find anything.

Me and my friends went to Shilin yesterday. It was the first time in a long time. We were looking for City Jungle and spent like an hour trying to find the place only to realize that they had demolished it! WTF?!

Not only was City Jungle gone but all the carnival games that used to be in the area behind the place were also gone. I noticed that some of the games were relocated to the area in front of the big food court next to the MRT. Like the baseball pitching game and the cork shooting game(the one where fake 1000/2000nt bills hang from strands of tissue paper).

In addition, all the pet shops behind City Jungle were also gone.

City Jungle was a pretty chill place, so sad to see it go. It’s the end of an era. Does anyone know when and why they shut down City Jungle?

I think it’s getting replaced with one of those “Hao Chai” type apartment buildings.

progress

The way Taiwan does thing is they destroy all trace of the old and replace it with the new, it makes sense though due to the limited space they have here…

Thanks for the informative reply, that was exactly what I was looking for.

So they decided to sell the building for 3,550,000,000nt. Now they are gonna turn it into a residential complex.

Damn man it’s seriously the end of an era. That place has been there for at least a decade. It was a great place to just go and chill. The mechanical bull, bumper cars, bowling, billiards, arcade, food, etc, so many great memories up in there.

The Trump bowling place in Dongqu closed not too long ago also. That place was awesome too. 24 hour bowling, nothing else like it. It seems like these bowling places in Taipei are slowly getting phased out one by one.

In the three short years that I’ve been living in Taipei, this city has undergone such major changes.

In the news clip, they showed them packing up all the bowling equipment. So is the City Jungle relocating to another location? And all those pet shops, where have they gone?

Kind of like nightclubs, used to be a real popular thing, and as soon as the trend passes, they disappear without a trace.

You’re welcome.

Yeah. I’m not making light of it, but I’m an old guy, so this sort of thing is an old story to me.

It happens, and it’s probably going to keep happening.

Yeah try finding a music bar anywhere these days. That place was fun , something different to do than just going drinking all the time.

I was walking down that area on my way back from a bakery supply store down there. There is this row of slum aka stores just a block away. Are they tearing those down? Nope. But they will be charging an arm and a leg for the “haocai” apartments. Alas, it is close to the MRT.

The food and games “roofed area” acros from the MRT will be gone soon, too. So, what is left of the night market again?

As to the pet stores, I hope the illegal dog in a bag sellers who used to take residence in front of them also dissappear.

I also hope that the old Shinkong Factory area is turned into a park/art place like Huashan. That would be awesome, almost as entertaining as City Jungle was before.
