What is a ping?

Hey guys and gals I just got an apartment with my friend and the landlord says it is 45 pings. What is a ping in square feet or meters? if anyone knows at all please let me know.

Thanks

I’ve been told 36square feet and 38.81square feet. Not sure which one is correct, but close enough for you to get a rough idea…

Should be 1,620 square feet and some change.

Lastly, you’ll want to remember that they include the balcony’s, the common space in the stairwell, and a miniscule fraction of the land the place is built on in that assesment. So, knock off a couple of pings and you’ll be spot on.

Hope that helps…

Thanks that explains a lot. How many pings do you think I should knock of to get a more accurate measurement.

Ping is a Japanese way of measurement.

One ping is about the size of a “double bed”.

1 ping = 1 full size traditional tatami mat = 35.5" x 71"

That’s only 1/2 a ping. One full ping is 2 tatamis put together. 71x71 which is just a tad under 36square feet.

This theory has been disproved on an earlier thread.

1 ping = 3.30579 square meters = 35.5833 square feet = 2 tatami mats = about the size of a double bed.

A ping in measuring houses includes balconies, carparks and the apartment’s share of the stairwells, common areas.

What my house is only half the size I thought it was! :fume:

A ping is either one-thirty-second of an apartment, depending on the size of the apartment; or, it’s the sound resulting from playing table tennis alone.

Wrong.

A ping is the sound that emanates from the machine that goes ping!–a vital instrument in the Fetus Frightening Room.

I thought a ping was a packet sent across the internet?
:help:

A ping is the last thing a chicom submarine hears before a Taiwan destroyer drops a depth charge on him. Oh, wait: thats the future. Sorry :s

A ping is 180 cm squared. 180cm x 180cm. 45 ping?? That’s a BIG place!!! If you live in Taipei it’ll cost you a fortune!!!

A ping is a tsubo. I hope that helps.

In the Air Force in tech school just after basic, if some new guy dropped his tray in the mess hall, everyone would say, “whoop ping!”
Why? I don’t know.

Actually the exact size of a Taiwan ping is 34.81 square feet. This is different from a Japanese ping and European square metre. Taiwan’s ping is smaller so that the people think that they are getting bigger than they really are. A typical construction way of making money. The others are correct for Japan but not for here.

Are you saying that Taiwanese exaggerate about the size of their “pings” to make them seem bigger than they really are?

(Smart quote still not working. Guess I’m not so smart)

A ping’s just the yang side of a pong-

Yes, I think that they do exaggerate. Their pings are not that big. Check out the raincoats here. The ping and pong are for another game alltogether(ha,ha). So a word of warning to those unsuspecting ones out there. Check the ping size properly before going any further. You might be disappointed if you don’t(in more ways that one). Good repies you guys out there. Catch you on the flip side.
