What is it so special about Taiwan compared to some other developed and richest countries in the world that you will love to live from the rest of your life?coz i wonder there is low wages compared to other rich and developed countries…other than that nothing more aside from old buildings and expensive properties…
Just visited a rich place Qatar. Taiwan can drink beer easier. Good Asia food (but Qatar has more Phillipine food). Nicer tropical weather.
Qatar
Finland which more poor than Qatar, has also less food choice and very cold weather compared to Taiwan
Taiwan compare to Japan has same rice I like. Rich Singapore offers different rice haha, and Taiwan has nice teas and like Japan (maybe better, debatable)
Disclaimer: Just add “horrendous traffic excluding” to every positive point.
I haven’t found the words yet but something about the vibe. The people are such that it feels comfortable somehow. The safety, democracy, Taiwanese niceness and overall culture just make me relax and just live life as I want without giving a fuck about what is happening around me. Their not gonna judge my looks, not gonna accost me, rob me or in general affect my life in any negative way.
I also disagree on this as a blanket statement but whatever.
More freedom. But that’s more a cultural opinion, not a legal thing.
Thats a minus point for Qatar then.
Don’t have to defend myself from violence if I accidentally bumped into someone, or said something…
Like it’s really hard to get Taiwanese to become violent.
Qatar is a dump compared to Abu Dhabi. It’s a huge dusty construction zone.
There are many advantages but for me the absolute no. 1 is the cost of living.
Aside of real estate prices (but that’s because too many rich boomers who bought them first 40 years ago and are now playing their Monopoly game…) Taiwan is still extremely affordable yet offers the same quality of life as every other rich country.
Fuel is cheap, rent is cheap, electricity is extremely cheap, eating out 3 times a day is cheap, parking even in Taipei is still cheap (my home town with 4 x lower population density has at least double the price for an hour of parking…).
VAT is only 5%, in general taxes are quite low and the government doesn’t steal that much from regular folks yet there’s a freakin 2nd floor of the highway between Taipei and Hsinchu because… why not
(and in Europe they keep telling us that we need crazy high taxes to finance all the public shit or whatever)
Because Taiwan essentially stole all the gold from China when they left… I don’t know.
Tax in Taiwan is crazy low yet they can afford all these public works, government programs, and even give everyone 6000nt, all without taking on debt. That gotta count for something.
Maybe because in the West there’s more corruption? I don’t know. Seems everything costs more to do.
Ah shit, did I become a boomer? ![]()
But don’t forget also low cost of living.
Not everybody is on low wages. Cost of living, low taxes, ease of llving, safety are big ones. Family. It’s not because ‘Taiwanese so friendly’’ although they are not unfriendly either.
I hate Taiwan summer, and I rather have freezing winter than this hot summer where the AC don’t seem to work too well.
Is it? I was thinking about vacationing there. Looks interesting and a contrast to those that don’t want to do the Dubai experience in that region.
My wife is from Indonesia and living at the equator made her really like the fog and the always winter of the sunset district whereas I love the heat of Martinez and most of the east bay
Guess she could love England.
On the other hand Most of the US is under a heat advisory so I guess we pretty lucky
I go from 88 in the east bay to SF and 66 in 30 mins sometimes
I went there in 2018 for a job interview. Liked it better than Dubai but a lot less than Abu Dhabi. Small and loads of construction pre-World Cup. They flew me business class and put me up at a 5-star and provided tours of the corniche, museums, Falcon hospital etc.
I ended up not getting the gig and am thankful on that one.
For any Gulf country, they would have to throw obscene amounts of lucre at me for me to consider (and then only post 55 when my gold plated gov pension kicks in). I would consider it to pad up the retirement savings but only post 55.
Could’ve been great for a year
Some of the beach resorts look nice. Idk how nice the sand and water actually is. I was hoping it would be a more low key experience than Dubai
