What is so special about Taiwan compared to other developed and richer countries?

Me,

Have had this pair maybe 2 years now, no problems and i wear them all the time. And if I have a problem, 10 minutes on foot to the shop. Totally worth it, I’m happy

You makes me laugh:joy::joy: when you answer to NZ …and you can be a comedian

Like this above. Now you can question it’s quality or whatever but I wear it all the time for two years and no issue so far.

2016

I go to a dental clinic at Chiayi Christian hospital every 3 months. I’ve had many visits to fix my gums from years of plaque buildup as previous dentists never cleaned inside the gums. Now I go every 3 months and a cleaning takes around 30 - 40 mins. Same dentist he is very thorough. Costs in Taiwan are so cheap with NHI. I pay NT$150 for the teeth cleaning

and 2018—dusty as fuck both times.

What an impressive person, good luck to him.

Taiwan is special because it doesn’t tax foreign sourced income under 1M. Tax is low, rent and food is cheap. There is no financial incentive for me to leave and return to my home country. I can put up with the other stuff here in Taiwan if it means I can actually save money and generally be left alone. This is not possible in my home country. I guess I’m gambling China is more bark than bite. “Go where you’re treated best.” — Andrew Henderson

I thought the cleaning is cover every 6 month. Last time my dentist ask me to go back another day because it was not 6 month yet, just for a few days

What??? I thought only Americans get taxed by the US for foreign sourced income.

A Taiwanese who lives overseas and makes over 1M gets taxed? I wish I knew that before claiming my Taiwanese citizenship.

Is this 1 million nt or usd? Because 1 million nt isn’t that hard to make per year. Even Walmart workers can make that if they worked some overtime. I made about 18,000 per year working at Walmart.

No, only if you’re a tax resident in Taiwan. And the amount is actually >6.7 million (?). But not sure if as a Taiwanese, you‘d need to give up your household registration to no longer be considered a tax resident.

No. Taiwanese who live overseas and do not have an income from Taiwan are not taxed by Taiwan.

How’s that working out for you then TL?

Making 1 million nt in the us is not very hard at all. Even fast food workers in the us can exceed this.

1 million nt a year in Taiwan is harder but doable. But with this wage your standard of living is roughly the same as someone making 70,000 a year in the us.

Money is hard to make in any country. It’s a very advanced skill set. Most wealth in the world still probably comes from inheritence , but those who make money other than that certainly have my respect.

So, a Taiwan tax resident who leaves Taiwan for a business trip for, let’s say a month, won’t get taxed for their income during that trip unless they make over $1M? Is that what you meant?
