What is your opinion of Taiwanese actress, Hannah Quinlivan (昆凌)

To be fair, his clothes are probably all picked out by a stylist.

I dunno, kind of a weird question … what do we think of someone who’s certainly not famous to most of us, has not been mentioned in this thread as actually acting in anything (unless I’m forgetting a post), is to most eyes quite good looking in at least some photos, and is married to a famous pop star. What kind of answer is the OP looking for? “What do you think of this actress who doesn’t act but is married to someone famous?”

The OP is also a half-Taiwanese hapa, so her curiosity seems pretty understandable.

OK, I missed that context.

Not that that makes your point any less valid from our point of view.

Fair point. But it’s a bit like asking people what they think about Bono’s wife. My guess is she’s long suffering.

The story I’ve heard about Bono’s bicycle accident is he was banging the lead singer of the Coors, while she was involved with the son of a leading Northern Irish gangster. A baseball bat was involved.

That’s quite an achievement considering she’s not even Chinese.

I speak Chinese but till now I’ve never heard of her

What are you trying to express? She is Taiwanese, for the last two decades some of the biggest stars in the Chinese speaking world have been Taiwanese.

The creepiness of Chinese imperialist paternalism.

Oh I thought we were just kicking around whether a particular girl was cute

And she is but every ten minutes on chonghsiao / tun hwa a girl comes by who can blow her socks off

I’ve seen some girls there that I’ve permanently CT scanned them into my mental hard drive

Explain?

You think the concept of a Chinese speaking world is imperialist?

About the most ridiculous thing I read all week.

You know both Taiwanese and Chinese speak Mandarin right? As do Singaporean, Malaysian Chinese and overseas Chinese.

There is an English speaking world also. Saying that she speaks Chinese, doesnt mean that she is politically Chinese

Back to the topic at hand, as far as looks are concerned, this actress looks “average” by Taiwan standards. Obviously, some people are attracted to the hapa look and others will give celebrities a couple of extra points just because they’re celebrities.

But I see plenty of women that I’d consider a lot more attractive every time I walk on the street, take the MRT, etc. in Taipei.

@Dr_Milker

Even the greenest in Taiwan have no problem with the term 華語圈. See it all the time in Taiwan

Not in and of itself, but it is in the way China applies it. In their minds, the “Chinese-speaking world” belongs to them, literally. They long for the day when all ethnic Chinese, especially Chinese speakers, are under their direct control.

Of course. And the control freaks in Beijing think of all these people as theirs, and not just in an abstract sense.

I wouldn’t be surprised if she was well on her way to being politically Chinese. Her husband certainly is. If you’re a Jay Chou fan, you’re probably aware of his transformation from singing about basketball and “diao” to writing full-blown odes to the Chinese race.

I think we’re talking about different things here. The 華語圈 concept means very different things to Greens in Taiwan and the CCP.

I think you are confused. The Chinese-speaking world, sinophone, is a thing https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sinophonehttps://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sinophone

Its not political. Taiwanese like Faye Wong or watching Chinese costume dramas or Lu Xun novels or Three Kingdoms etc. Its completely apolitical.
