what is 不拉嘰 exactly? i have seen it with adjectives before it but never really understanding the whole adj + 不拉嘰… hehehe
so how do you explain 假不拉嘰; 傻不拉嘰; 瘦不拉嘰?
i’m just new in mandarin.

I can only think of “very” as explanation.
other common combinations are
紅不拉嘰 very red
兇不拉嘰 very mean
醜不拉嘰 very ugly
Dragonbabe says it doesn’t stand on its own. Think of it as an intensifying suffix, like “…in the extreme”, and generally for negative things. Although she says it’s not really extreme in degree, but more like ‘very’. ![]()
wow thanks! so it’s an intensifier hehehe. great i’ve learned something new!
It’s slang and not very common. Of course you cannot just replace very (很; hen) with it.
I have heard the combination with “red” quite often before.
I’m sure you can always improvise and all that, who doesn’t have the creativity anyway? But my point is “No local says that”. Being content is one thing, while being understood is another.
