I watched The Union today. Seems like it was written by an algorithm, and there were some glaring plot holes. But, it was enjoyable enough
Greedy People
7.5
Good funny fun flick JGL whodunnit murder mystery thriller turns very intense, wow. Probably won’t know what happened at the end unless very very observant in a key final scene.
Flipside
Documentary about the final closing days of a vinyl record store but mostly fatalistic focus on the producer failing at making documentaries
Yeah, I liked it. Was kind of a Coen brothers movie with half the style but all the Tim Blake Nelson. JGL elevates everything he’s in.
Rewatching the Alien movies. Really hope the new alien movie will be good.
Reviews were good. Can’t be worse than 4, probably not as good as the first 2
I saw it last week in IMAX - really enjoyed it.
I enjoyed it. I think it was 15 minutes longer than it should have been. I started waiting for it to be over near the end. But it’s worth a watch.
The Fall Guy
This was OK, kinda fun
Borderlands
This started off better than expected. Pretty fair to the game all things considered. In the first half I thought there might be some cult potential. Then it dropped off a cliff.
Watched this last night, it was a pretty interesting take on dementia and ptsd. Good typhoon flick, bit depressing but nothing gross.
Imaginaerum: The Other World
A near musical by Nightwish.
Looks interesting
Good late at night with big rain, thick blanket and some wine
Watched ‘This is Spinal Tap’ yesterday, watching ‘The return of Spinal Tap’ now. It has much more of the band actually playing: I hadn’t realised that besides being funny they are actually a pretty decent band too. There is a new movie ‘Spinal Tap II’ coming out next year!
It’s the only movie on IMDB that goes to 11
Recent watches;
Hellboy, The Crooked Man: Better than the last roboot. Works well as a prequel to the del Toro entries. Ok, the plot was thin and contrived, character development non-existent. But if you’re a genre fan, the atmosphere is there and it’s a good October watch
Beetlejuice 2: as above, it works well for what it is. More camp than I remember in the original, but hits a lot of the old notes which will ring true to fans. I got distracted by something and missed some of the ending details
The wasp: ok, dark but satisfying. I tend to like Natalie Dormer in everything
i liked beetlejuice 2 as well. not close to as good as the original, but as a fan it hit all the right tickles. empty theater was nice as well, ghost month made it pleasant watching haha. i can see, however, if a person didnt grow up with the first one, it might not be amazing.
Just a heads up to Monty Python fans (of which I am one) and Netflix folks. Monty Python and the Holy Grail rolls off of Netflix this week. Last day to watch is October 31.
Not movies, but best of collections, Monty Python’s Flying Circus and Monty Python’s Personal Best as well as the docuseries Monty Python Almost the Truth are also rolling off at the same time. I really enjoyed Almost the Truth for the stories of the early day formations of the group and beginnings of the shows.
Several other movies are also rolling off Thursday or next month so Netflix people may want to check your lists.
Now that at least some of us have a day off tomorrow I will recommend a movie that is rolling off of Netflix as of tomorrow night.
The Little Hours, a sort of black comedy about nuns and priests behaving badly in the 14th century. Cursing, drinking, sex (straight and gay), pagan rituals, attempted murder, etc. I found it pretty entertaining and I’m picky about movies but it may only appeal to certain sensibilities (warped, like mine). If you’ve got an hour an a half I think it’s worth it.
Again, last day to watch October 31.
