I really enjoyed penguin but I’ll say that the better recent gangster show has been gangs of London (use a VPN to watch American Netflix)

One Piece

Entertaining enough but geared for kids.

Berlin Wall–quite good

I can’t remember if I talked about it yet or not but the show 1883 is really amazing. It’s basically Oregon trail the show but the writing is really good

My kid grew up on the books which I didn’t get at all. I liked the show but the kid says it’s crap.

We’re waiting for season 2. My son really enjoyed the first season. It made a lot more sense when I learned it was based on a Japanese comic series, which occurred after around the third show.

Neurotic husband and narcissist wife spiraling through couple issues. Others with mid-life crisis. Based on a book

Squid Game now started on Netflix.

Bruhahahahahaha

TV shows I binged this year:

When They See Us (miniseries - 2019?) Thought provoking, well done, good child actors performers as well. 8.5/10

Succession (seasons 1-4) Finally got around to watching it. Great series I never want to watch again. Fantastic characters I’d never want to meet in real life. 9/10

Cobra Kai (season 6 - first half) This show’s best days are way behind it. Still a fun if brainless watch, but be prepared for plenty of eye rolling moments. 6.5/10

Squid Game (season 2) Just finished it. It’s still fun, but the novelty and charm of the first season is gone imo. 7.5/10

The Gentlemen (season 1) Started promising but got kinda stupid towards the end. Haven’t decided if I’ll continue with it. 7/10

Shogun (originally a miniseries, now season 1) One of the best new shows of the year. Great adaptation, but not sure how subsequent seasons will fare with no source material to derive from (we saw how that worked for GoT). 9/10

Cowboy Bebop (the original anime, not the shitty live-action Netflix adaptation) Awesome series. Great animation. Classic show. Should never have been defiled by the live action remake machine. 9.5/10

Masters of the Air (miniseries) - Sub par attempt to recapture the magic of ā€˜Band of Brothers.’ 6/10… speaking of which…

Band of Brothers (miniseries, rewatch) - Excellent. Pure excellence. 9.5/10

Baby Reindeer (miniseries) - Mixed on this one. Kind of enjoyed it, but left a bit of a sour aftertaste and I’m not sure why. 7/10

Invincible (second season) - It’s alright. Thought it was a step down from the first season. Plot lines started getting too convoluted. 8/10

The Bear (season 3) Again, just alright, and again a step down from previous seasons. 7.5/10

I’m probably forgetting a miniseries or something. I didn’t include any documentary minis though.

I like the cast and people keep saying good things, but the premise seems boring

I liked it enough to watch a season 2. Not as good as the movie, though, and no rewatch value

Yeah, this is great

Everything else on the list i haven’t seen a season and no interest

I’ve been catching up on the Simpsons, actually enjoying post Rick and Morty seasons. Changes of flavor, more risque

For me, it’s less about the surface premise (a Murdoch type figure deciding what to do with his media empire after he dies) and more about the layered characters and their dysfunctional interactions with each other. That said, it’s dark and the characters are unlikeable. It’s not for everyone. It also takes a few episodes to get good, so requires some patience.

Meanwhile, back in the real world…
Art imitating life, or vice versa?

Finished season 2 of Squid Game in like 2-3 days.
Lot of storylines going on, and knew since Season 3 was being advertised for broadcast later in 2025 that certain things would not conclude. Anyway, at least not a waste of time, lol.

We’ve watched three episodes only. My daughter is busy with college exams and reports, and so we’re waiting for her to have free time. I’m really enjoying it. I’m trying not to look at the subtitles, but my Korean isn’t good enough. I’m understanding all the cuss words, though!

True Detective

Season 1 loving it my second time watch. Matthew McConaughey’s acting is off the scale good.

Looking for connections to ā€œThe King In Yellowā€ book makes it even more interesting.

So Jackie Chan isn’t in season 6. He is just in the movie revival. I’m going to sit that one out.

Really digging the Taylor Sheridan shows so far. Finishing up 1884 and started Tulsa king.
