What's the going rate for a MAID or HOUSE CLEANER?

I was just informed today by my housecleaner that his cleaning rate is going up to $1500 for 4 hours starting next year. I’m currently paying $1200 for 4 hours. He claims that I have a cheaper rate than other clients of his and that I also want everything really clean and dust free while others are not as particular. He claims that depending on the client the rates are different. I guess this is based on how clean the client wants their house? Anyway, it all sounds ridiculous to me. He also stated that other maids have increased their rates because of gas prices.

Soooo, my question is, how much should I pay for a maid/house cleaner per hour? I only require everthing dusted (shelves, nick nacks, furniture, etc.); floors vacuumed and mopped; showers, toilets, sinks to be cleaned; beddings changed (usually just one bed since the other bed is a guest bed); kitchen and dirty dishes cleaned. I do not require any laudry being done or any ironing.

I thought I was paying reasonable well at $300 per hour. Just wondering if $375 per hour is too much. What do you pay for a maid/house cleaner?

Thanks for any input.[/b]

Is he a local? Seems low, if so. If he’s SE Asian then it seems pretty high.

I got ya covered. 250/hr. Excellent work. PM me.

Extremely high. We have never paid more than 250.

But do you wear the French maid outfit? :howyoudoin:

Just the fishnets and garters.

I’ve always paid 250/hr with no complaints, but I’m not really that particular about specs of dust, and all I need really is sweeping, vacuuming and mopping. And that’s for a Taiwanese one who speaks a little English.

Prices must have declined. I knew a Philiippina who was working on the side and she charged 2000nt to clean a house. And that was in 1999. She spent bout half a day and the people always asked her back, so she mustve done a good job.

Hahahahahahahaha, that gave me a good laugh. Typical Taiwanese. That’s why I never trusted anyone to clean my house while I lived in Taiwan. Their idea of ‘clean’ is a real joke… :noway:

I have not heard good things about Taiwanese cleaners, the standing joke on the hill is that they sweep everything under the rug.

I once paid NT$3k for a taiwanese cleaner for 6 hours, and the house was not clean afterwards.

Very recently, I asked a friend to set me up with a Pina maid, she came by and sorted the mess in 8 hours, NT$200 per hour, and the house is clean.

It seems that 300 NTD is reasonable compared to your responses. I don’t think I should pay more.

It’s a long story how I got this particular house cleaner. I initially had his wife clean my apt. She is local Taiwanese. She did an excellent job. She used to work for my apt building to clean, and when she quit, I hired her to clean. Recently, she had her husband, who is Filipino, come with her to clean so that they were only cleaning for 2 hrs (instead of 4 hrs by herself). That was fine with me because that means they were in and out faster. Then she got a regular cleaning job at a business, and he started cleaning for her because his job is in the evenings and he can clean during the day. He has only cleaned by himself twice. I have a feeling it was his idea to raise the rate since I’m so particular :unamused: .

Well, now I’m without a house cleaner. I searched for previous posts with maid references. Two websites were suggested but one link no longer works and the other is all in Chinese and I cannot read it. Are there other services to hire house cleaners? Or any recommendations from personal experience?

Yeah, I think you’re smart to look elsewhere. I would try for a Filippino next time too (even though you didn’t have luck this time). I wouldn’t trust a Taiwanese maid to clean even a bookshelf let alone a house. Sounds like you were lucky with the guy’s wife before.

I have never seen a house look even remotely clean ater a Taiwanese maid has ‘cleaned’ it. All I have seen is damaged property (scratched furniture, damaged fragile furniture, and wet bathroom carpets that they didn’t have the intelligence to remove before they squirted the water everywhere with the shower head :s). Not to mention the fact that the house doesn’t look much different than before it was ‘cleaned’!! My experience with the Taiwanese in general is that they have no respect for personal property, not even their own. They certainly won’t respect yours.

I know there are agencies in Taipei, but I don’t think agencies are easy to come by south of there. Agencies will have fixed rates. I have no idea what your current cleaner is talking about with raising his hourly rate, that makes no sense at all. What a nutter.

Good luck.

I found an agency in Longtan. I am not using them again, as the price is too high, and going through my network here is so much easier.

Respectfully disagree. My landlord’s wife comes twice a month and does an awesome job. All you have to do is tell her what she didn’t do and the next time it is done. She is Taiwanese, so no worries about hiring illegal workers that could result in a 100,000 NT fine.

She wants to do more of this, so if you are interested, PM me with your digits and I will pass them on to my landlord (an Aussie, but we won’t hold that against him).

Nice one. You forgot to mention their shiftiness and oriental inscrutability, though.
I just asked my Taiwanese wife about your comment. I won’t repeat everything she said about you because I’d get banned, probably. She DID say that if that really IS your experience, there’s probably a very good reason for it.

Make sure, too, that your “Fillipino” has a Taiwanese spouse, otherwise you’re risking a NT$750,000 fine. There’s at least one forumosan who was fined this amount.

I have had a Taiwanese cleaner, and she did a good job. That was through an agency though, and that was NT$400 per hour.

:open_mouth: 750,000NT dollar fine??? or was it 75,000 nt?? Which by itself is already HUGE in my book.

yee gads. Is there a fine for going out with an illegal philliippina maid after she cleaned my house (for no pay , just dinner) :stuck_out_tongue:

:noway: :noway: :noway: :noway: :noway: :noway:

NT$750,000. No joke.

Well, I am sure your wife knows everything and that she is right. I am sure that Taiwanese friends of mine who let their children jump on my new sofa and who neglect to use coasters when putting cold drinks on my wooden furniture, and the workmen who came to deliver furniture who scratched things up terribly were just out to get me for one reason or another, right? I mean, they never would do that otherwise, right? It MUST have happened for a very, very good reason I am sure!!!

All that tells me is you’re crap at choosing friends and supervising workmen.
