Found myself singing that Husker Du song “Sorry somehow” the other day. Can’t have been feeling particularly loving. God knows where it burbled up from.

Cocteau Twins, my favorite band of all time. They stopped making music together in the mid-90’s, but they really flourished in the 80’s.

On another note: Erhu, where were you when I was still in Taiwan? Us Cocteau Twins fans need to stick together.

Yes! I like Mr. Mister! Kyrie Eleison down the road that you must travel, Erica.

Nobody’s mentioned “Heart” yet. And how about Cindy Lauper? She was almost as big as Madonna at one point.

To me, it’s this melodic stuff that I remember best about the '80’s, and it seems to be mostly gone. They couldn’t do a soundtrack like “Footloose” again–which means that Kevin Bacon would never have become famous, and nobody would be interconnected with anybody else. The horror!

Speaking of twins, the Thompson Twins were not really twins.

I like Sade and Natalie Merchant… her Tigerlilly album is nice. I guess NM is more 90s.

Never heard of any of the other bands you listed.

twonavels - I’m with ya there. I still listen to most of this stuff! EVEN Richardm’s mention of Dwight Yoakum (But only This Time, and I thought that was from the early 90’s…my how time slips away! )

And I pretty much refuse to go to a nightclub unless they are revisiting the 80’s or 70’s. Needless to say I don’t go out dancing much!

Ha, yep Screaming Jesus, that’s my song when I’m driving.

Cyndi Lauper is great, I love her “true color”.
My old time favorite → A-HA. Since my junior high year…
