What's your favourite Halen?

Which Van Halen do you like best?

  • Original w/ Diamond Dave (all albums up to and including 1984)
  • Van Hagar
  • Van Cherrone, I’m not kidding (Van Halen III only)
  • I like them all equally
  • Everything except with Sammy, he’s a fucking retard
  • They each have their own unique charms

(No, that isn’t fat Val Kilmer)

I’ll post my own preferences later.

There are only two Van Halen albums. The first two. The rest is just nonsense.

This is the shit, dude:

deserves mention with the great works of VH. I rank it ahead of VH2 (although the guitars in ‘Light up the Sky’ are amazing), it is just end to end a great rock and roll album with a surprising amount of range, I think they were at their individual peaks at this point, and at various points in the album, Michael, Alex, Eddie and DLR are all as good as they’ve ever been.

If you like rock and roll, do yourself a favor and DL this album.

I like 3:20 - 4:10

Thanks, been a while since i listened to this stuff, like sinner’s swing too

Fair Warning was a great one. I also love that electric piano through the Marshall’s that opens WACF.

I liked the stuff with DLR and the stuff with Sammy - I was in high school during the early Sammy era and VH at the time were my favorite band. Never got into the III version and didn’t even go to see them during their only Aust tour in 1998.

I have a couple of early-era bootlegs if anyone’s interested. A phenomenal club show in Amsterdam from 1979 and some 1976 stuff from LA.

Has anyone heard Chickenfoot? Sammy Hagar, Michael Anthony, Joe Satriani and Chad Smith.

The Red Rocker’s awesome voice and Eddie on the keyboard. What’s not to love?

I have a deeply embarrassing obsession with DLR - white gloves, leather chaps, midair splits an all…

Women and Children first…Still my favorite Van Halen Album

Halon 1301 is a gas and it’s non toxic. You’d hardly know it was there. not
But I still like it the best.

I’m fonda halen, too, as long as tornados don’t accompany. Oh, and the roof ain’t metal.

PS Yall have absolutely no sense of humor.

The original Van Halen is way above and beyond any of the other setups. I didn’t mind what Sammy did post-Dave, but it didn’t have the same feel. I was in junior high when 1984 came out, so obviously that was huge for me. The first four albums are classics though. :2cents:

At least you didn’t say this one.

He’s from Oklahoma.
