Where are you from and why are you here?

I’m from Manila - born and raised. I bounced between the Philippines and New York City growing up, and was based in New York after college when my then-girlfriend suggested take a trip around the world for a year. Why choose to work and settle in taiwan?

I count both New York and Manila as my homes away from Taipei, and for me, Taipei has always been a happy alternative. There are many things I enjoy about those places, but Taipei is my home now because of the healthcare, the proximity to family, and its laidback atmosphere. My wife and I came back to Taipei from Shanghai so she could give birth here. We are pretty happy with the quality of healthcare and its affordability thanks to the national insurance programs.
