Where can I find a cleaver to buy?

Can’t find them at Costco, found them on Ruten but it seems to be a restricted item, including from a seller in Taiwan.

What are Taiwanese laws regarding knives: import from abroad, or mail order including from within the country?

Try Hola or Ikea I guess. There are also knife workshops I guess. The type that make fancy ass custom ones.

I got mine at a department store, traditional markets will have them, Showba has them, probably Carrefour

It’s probably not something I’d try to import, but can’t you buy them pretty much everywhere?

Supermarkets, household stuff stores, everything stores, and so on. I’m sure I’ve seen them in all those places.

Any neighborhood hardware store (五金行) sells cleavers at reasonable prices. Otherwise you can go to a specialty knife or kitchen store. They will have a wider selection to choose from.

I have a perfectly almost new cleaver I’m trying to get rid of just don’t let anyone do a DNA test on it okay it’s very cheap.

Meet me at the corner of Zhongxiao and Fushing. Or the green Sogo if that helps.

Wear a mask because I ain’t playing with no covid b*******. I got standards which includes mask.

There are literally hundreds of them on Ruten and Shopee too, even just using Google-translated search terms like 剁刀 and 菜刀.

It seems too obvious to be saying this, but Costco isn’t the place to go for something like this. Maybe they might sell a single type of cleaver for a couple of months each year as part of a knife set, but it’s not where you’d go if you’re specifically looking for one. Basically any other supermarket or store selling household stuff would be better.

Secondhand stores have them in my neighborhood. I live in Luzhou and they have a ton of kitchen stuff and reasonable prices. Plenty of similar stores throughout Taipei/New Taipei city.

Don’t someone make those cleavers that are made out of artillery shell casings from kinmen or something?

Good idea. They should go to Kinmen to buy a cleaver. That’s a much more convenient option than literally any medium to large supermarket, the everything stores that are on every other corner, household stores, or the various online shopping sites…

Maestro Wu knives. Someone gave us one as a wedding gift 20 years ago. Use it every day still.
Might have outlets around Taiwan or order online.
Looks like starting at around 1,500.

Be aware that most of those knifes are not actually made from bombshell castings. The ones that are very expensive usually are, but the average Maestro Wu knife is regular S/S made in a mass-producing items factory. I know a number of people who work(ed) there who confirmed this. That doesn’t mean the knives aren’t good, but something to be aware of

That would probably be a bit much to hope for.
