I have a box full of NTD-coins that has become bigger and bigger over the years I have been in Taiwan.
I have decided now is the time to go to the bank and exchange the coins for bank notes. Will any bank do this job for me or do I need to go to my own bank?
I have a 18L water jug that I have been collecting 1NT coins in basically since I got here 4 1/2 years ago. Its gotten so full and heavy now that I am having a hard time moving (dragging) it around, and I am going to be moving to a new apartment at the end of July. So I am looking for a place to convert at least 73Kg worth of coins to something more usable like 500NT or 1000NT bills. Its traveled with me through every apartment that I have had and old roommates and my girlfriend have added to it as well, but its just too heavy to carry on my scooter then up the steps to the 8th floor into my new apartment.
I have been told that 7-Eleven can change them but I think this is far out of their league unless they have one of those CoinStar things like in the US. I have a bank account with China Trust and Bank of Taiwan, I haven’t asked either one yet about this but it seems to me that they would be very apprehensive about taking in a 18L jug full of unwrapped 1NT coins. I know I would be.
The banks can do it. They have a machine that’ll sort and count them for you. I’ve done it with about NT$3000 worth before although it took a while because the machine kept jamming.
I bagged up about 7000 NT’s worth of coins and took them to a branch of Fubon. They were happy. Too make their lives easier i bagged it in 1000NT amounts.
Yeah I did a 5litre container with mixed coins when I was there. E.Sun changed it for me but I screwed up by taping the coins together - I had to untape and bag them in the branch which took a while.

Sorry Dragonbones, I did a search before posting this and didn’t see anything that was similar to my question.
I guess I will need to look harder next time. Even though that post is similar to mine, it seems that I have a much
larger amount of coins than the previous person, and mine are only 1NT coins. Just stating my justification towards this post
No prob, mate – not chiding you. The Search function is tricky unless you’re used to it, and I tend to know (being the WCIF guy) where to find old threads that newbies might not even know existed. I’m just identifying the thread so you can see the answers in it, and so the Money moderator can conveniently merge the two threads.
I see, I wasn’t trying to be rude before. Just that some other forums I have been on people tend to deal out harsher bashing for newer members or those who don’t post often, and it just gets tiring.
It’s good to know they have machines that will sort it for you. Cheers. [/quote]
I agree with Rocky, I would hate to drag this thing through town to the bank only to find that they want me to go home and wrap the coins in like coin rollers or sit there and count all the coins by hand. That would put a serious cramp in my day. So I think I will check out the banks first to see how they want to go about this, or if they are willing to do it in such a large amount.
