Anybody know where I can just walk in a store and buy cardboard boxes? I know there’s stuff on ruten, but even if I get someone with a TW ID to order them, the materials will be sent to my landlady who is going to be angry at me for moving and may just give the boxes to the recyclers. I know I could make the trek to WenShan and buy boxes from Steven the Mover, but I’m not using his company to move and not sure if he will be keen on selling me boxes.
I never bought mine, I just made trips to local grocery stores and told them I was moving and asked for any spare boxes. I only asked for a few from each store so they wouldn’t think I was just taking them to recycle. Plus, I could only take so many at a time on my scooter.
Caveat: This method carries the risk of bringing in unwanted critters, but I didn’t have that problem–well, no critters that I saw, anyway.
They sell boxes at their office.

Thanks, @tando I’ll check them out.
@Steve4nLanguage Thanks, that’s a great idea. But I’m a critter-phobe and a germaphobe also, so I’ll have to pass.
Try your local post office
I have moved twice, and the people who do the moving sell me the boxes.
I think you can buy 35x35x50cm Black Cat boxes from 7-11 or maybe familymart. Sometimes they are sold-out. NT$50 iirc.
In google map search, zoom in on your area and then type 包裝材料 in the search box. It should show the stores in the area. I would phone them to make sure they have moving boxes, size and amount.
Postoffice: cheap and sturdy.
Just sneak into Costco and walk do the checkout/cafeteria area. Tons of boxes around there.
Thanks everybody for the info. This is all quite helpful and means I don’t have to waste half a day traveling deep into Taipei to get boxes.
I tried the post office. Couldn’t find any.
Took a look around the neighborhood. A guy in a stationary shop gave me one box. Couldn’t find anywhere else that sold them.
Today I found the answer. There is a self packing area after you pay in carrefour(the big ones) with loads of boxes to use. Not sure if every store has it but theres 2 I specifically remember seeing it at.
This is a “Taiwan hack” that I’m grateful for every time I move
If you live in coutryside can to to an agricultural office which sells fertilizer, pesticides, etc. Mine sells boxes…some too small but some are for larger produce like watermelons…boxed very srurdy.
Last time I moved I got a few boxes from Showba every time I stopped there to buy something. Probably every large retailer will have lots of cardboard that they are happy to give customers
