Kmarts in the US were gross and I think they’re all gone now. Arguably much better in NZ when I went.
They’re different companies. NZ kmart is AU Kmart
US Kmart is unrelated
I make more than 6 figures and have more than I need
not as much as I would like to have though ![]()
Right. But why? How padded do you need your retirement to be?
I earn a little more than I need, i find it hard not to spend that extra, though. I actually have to bond my savings to prevent me from buying random shit like new laptops or music festival tickets
There’s just a voice in my head that sees something shiny and proclaims “SEIZE THE DAY, ASSHOLE!”
I don’t need it to be padded, I just want to retire early ![]()
Then why wouldn’t you need to pad it?
I retired early, totally padded. It’s great. ![]()
That’s a good point. I haven’t looked too deeply into Uniqlo in that way.
For me, I just have a few items I wear daily from them. I don’t use them in what I considered “fast fashion” in that I buy stuff every season and throw it away in that sense.
Where do you shop for casual wear that you find lasts you a long time as you’ve said?
Memes in text form don’t waste as much computing power as putting basic words into a
.jpeg or .gif. they even work just as well for those that can read.

My recommendations may not work for you since they are catered to my style. I wear a lot of polos and for pants I steer clear of denim because I’m not a fan of swass. I haven’t worn jeans in maybe 10 years and my boys thank me.
I tend to like “entry level” type luxury. High enough quality but not the crazy markup.
Polos - Ralph Lauren or Brooks Brothers.
Basics like T-shirts/Hoodies - this is where made in the USA shines IMO. A brand like American Giant, or Lady White Co, is very durable and good quality.
Pants - Prana (like lululemon but not as pricey) - very comfortable stretch fabric. I buy like one pair a year and have 6 pairs now that I rotate. First pair was maybe 7-8 years ago and still looks good.
Shoes - leather sneakers. The Greats premium leather made in Italy for $189. Other shoes at this level like Common Projects or Kaio would up to twice that price. Two pairs I rotate for the past 6 years.
Ooo that’s a nice tip for Prana, I have a few pairs of Lululemon as it’s very comfortable. Will have to give them a try.
You might want to skip on Common Project, there is a shoe reviewer that broke theirs down and it’s apparently made with cheap leather with plastic. I don’t know about the other brands you mentioned for sneakers. Also, Made in Italy doesn’t mean much these days. I live near many of these factories in Tuscany and it’s Chinese owned with imported Chinese workers that are underpaid! (Italy surprisingly doesn’t have min wage which makes it easy to exploit)
There are still good artisans but it’s not a given now with Made In Italy. Italian companies in general have been selling out to foreign firms for a while now. Not many Italians want to learn these crafts, some of the best in terms of shoes come from Japan in Italy.
I use this other spanish company for leather sneakers if you want to check them out. They make good leather shoes as well. I have a few for formal wear.
SNEAKERS COLLECTION | TLB MALLORCA – TLB Mallorca
Yes I think you’re referring to Rose Anvil. He has not reviewed the Greats though. It’s a Brooklyn brand whose purpose was to build a high-end sneaker but not at an outrageous price. They’ve held up really well. I agree on Common Projects.
These look nice. I’ll check them out. Thanks.
I forgot to mention this T shirt brand I use. They make custom sizing T shirts as I’m always struggling to find a size that fits as a taller person that’s not overweight. Made in Portugal.
Spain and Portugal are making high quality stuff these days without the higher price tag of other European countries.
This is a great concept on the sizing. I’m definitely going to try one.
I have to agree on Portugal. I’m currently doing fully knit sweaters in Portugal. That was the last thing I moved out of China because it was do difficult to find elsewhere.
I also like Kenzo polos which are made in Portugal but didn’t recommend them since I thought they might be out of your price range.
It’s a bit more than I think I would spend on tshirts and polo. I also prefer minimal logos or not at all. As plain and possible.
The first name on that list was Snoop Dogg. After that, I kept scrolling for the laffs.
Ed Sheeran? :ginger:
On edit: I am disappointed that there is no ginger emoji. ![]()
And retire early, securely, with the option to do what what you want (within reason, but maybe even with some luxury) without having to scrimp and scrape.
