I love to make lentil pilaf and tabouli. Normally I get the ingredients whenever I pop over to HK. But with SARS I haven’t been over there recently and my supplies have run out.
Do any of you helpful cooks out there know where in Taipei I could buy lentils and bulgur wheat?
I haven’t found anything at Sung-ching Supermarkets, Wellcome, or Costco. Has anyone definitely seen them at Carrefour, RT-Mart, Breeze or anywhere else?
Someone vaguely suggested the Shida and Tienmu areas but I am not familiar with the grocery stores in those areas. Any specific suggestions?
I am curious to see what the new Tesco on Sanmin Rd [between Minsheng and Minchuan] will have when it opens later this summer.
There’s a well-stocked little health food shop (Santa Cruz) one door down from the southwest corner of Min Sheng East Rd. (Sec. 5) and Xinzhong Street (opposite 7/11, about 2 blocks west of San Min Rd.) I have bought lentils there, and I should imagine they would have bulgour wheat too. One of their employees speaks some English (the only male working there). He could probably help you find what you’re looking for, or re-direct you to another store.
This place imports lentils and has at least two kinds, greenish and reddish brown, the latter more expensive. Sorry, I don’t know the varietal names. The greenish ones were only $120/kg.:
