Yeah exactly this - if he has that kind of money to throw around on a place to rent (yikes, why not just buy and actually make an investment), he definitely has the money to delegate someone else to find an overpriced apartment for him.

I’d just move into the whatever they call the penthouse room in the W hotel. Two stories, 80 ping, lots of lounge space, full kitchen…might be more than 200k/mo but it’s the only swanky place I’ve seen in Taipei that seems to have anything resembling a sensible layout (for my western standards).
In Taiwan 200k is just dumb money. It’s very likely it will be lipstick on a pig. Tacky fake brass, gold, marble finish everywhere, but underneath the same shitty Taiwan standard, no airgap in between floors for noise insulation, no sink traps to stop odors, no proper earthing, windows you can fall out of etc etc ad nauseum.

If your friend’s budget is $200 000/m, he can easily purchase something and build equity for that for $200 000/m and still live in luxurious areas.

Any house in a hotel is not a good idea during the pandemic. Just ask your black card lady to sort things out for ya.
