It’s occurred to me that attempting to sign a lease before actually arriving in Taiwan could be a mistake 
So I’m left wondering, where can a guy stay with all of his stuff that’s cheaper than a hotel while he’s looking for a place to rent? Any ideas?
How much stuff?
Don’t bring too much – you can buy most things in Taiwan, and storage issues will complicate your life while you’re looking for a place.
There are a number of pretty good hostels popping up these days, as well as some of the perennial old chestnuts. If you search hostels on f.com you should find plenty of threads.

You can get yourself cleaned, you can have a good meal. You can do whatever you feel.
