Where to take a 1 1/2 year old for a few hours?

Doing the solo dad thing tomorrow (Sunday) and looking for place I can take my 1 1/2 year old. He can walk on his own…kind of. Looking for a fun safe, place he can play (at his age group) indoors.

Sanxia is home base.
Have car.
Prefer not to drive more than an hour to get anywhere.

Ideas?

Orphanage!

Haha… I kid. I usually take my toddler to an indoor playground. Does he like slides and ballpits, that kinda thing?

Indoor mall. Air-conditioned. Let him walk around with you. Bring stroller for him if he gets tired. Some/many malls have play area, or those “bouncy-ball” type play areas.
Have fun. Don’t forget the diapers.

Any recommendations?

Sorry I live in Kaohsiung. I do know Taipei has even more than we do though. And we have a fair number. Shouldn’t be hard to find one that’s relatively close to you.

1 1/2 year old is not going to care, as long as they’re fed, watered, changed and shown some attention they’re happy.

It’s not about that.
It’s about locating a place that is suitable for that age.

Global Mall in Zhonghe:

But malls are going to be crowded on weekends.

Go to a parent-child play center. Where are you located?

This is my favorite:
臺北市大安親子館
106台北市大安區延吉街246巷10號
02 2325 4399
https://maps.app.goo.gl/Xg77tDHYYkfsdYi38

Admission is free. Parking is cheap.

Make sure to wear socks and bring ID for your kid. There are other locations throughout Taipei.

EDIT: I see you’re going on a weekend. They limit children inside, so you’ll either have to be waiting for them to open, or wait for someone to leave.

Slightly less popular, but still free, is the toy bank:

It’s less popular because there’s only enough toys laying around to entertain kids for a few hours. It’s essentially a toy library. Most of the toys are in bags for you to take home (it’s free as long as you return them within two weeks). But even if you don’t want to rent toys, you can still play in the (very small) play area.

Global Mall has the vehicle shaped shopping carts to use for the whole mall. Plus the 3rd floor has toy stores and arcades where your 18 month old can gawk at the many colorful things. There is also a ball pit and (paid) indoor playground up there

You can also go to the education center of the Taipei zoo. It’s indoors, and there’s a/c.

Take him to play at an indoor pool. The Hsin-Yi District Sports Center swimming pool has a small wading play pool next to it, and parents take very small children there to play all the time. It’s a good way to introduce kids to the water. If he gets bored, then take him into the big pool. Perhaps other district Sports Centers have one, too. Very young children will probably need a swimming diaper, however. https://xysc.cyc.org.tw/

Are there any outdoor music venues for toddlers in Taiwan?

What about nature day camps?
With birds, butterflies and bunnies?

Yeah, sorry, didn’t put that very well. When our kids were that age, and even now to some extent, we used to spend ages finding special places to bring them, often long drives or MRT rides to some amazing new play spot but finally found they were often just as happy, or even happier to just wander around the local mall, somewhere familiar with AC, food and us. Toddlers tend to have simple needs so don’t stress about it too much.

What about petting farms/zoos?
Orchards?

Hooters. Kids love the hula hoop shows.

Did you see the weather today? My son is the same age. Kids can not be outside long in this weather

I have an almost-1.5 y.o. too and I have no idea how to help besides the aforementioned 親子館, where you need to sign up for ahead of time. Sometimes during the school year, there are openings for day-of reservations, but I’m not sure about the summer.

As you probably already know, it’s also very dependent upon the personality of you kid. Thankfully my kid right now likes to be observant and he’s relatively shy, so just walking him around a mall or supermarket works for me, but it may not work for everyone.

Agreed, we do this. He loves running the aisles and it’s free A/C. If the free baby gyms are too busy I usually go to the paid ones. Almost every mall has a ball area, etc. It’s like 300$ for two hours I think
