Which Taiwan newspapers and TV stations are pro-KMT and which are pro-DPP… and dare I ask, which are unbiased?
I’m looking for objective data but coming up with little. So I’ll give you the unsubstantiated “common knowledge” version, which isn’t necessarily true.
Newspapers:
China Times 中國時報 – “red” because it’s so generous to China
UDN 聯合報 – blue; this is the paper preferred by civil servants, teachers, and servicemen
Liberty Times 自由時報 – green
Apple Daily 蘋果日報 – light green with a heavy populist bent
Taipei Times (English) – greener than a grove of evergreens in greenland
China Post (English) – blue
CNA / FocusTaiwan – largely blue, but mostly incompetent
WantChinaTimes – blue
Thinking Taiwan – literally owned by Tsai Ing-wen, so…
TV stations:
FTV 民視 and Sanlih 三立 are green and very mega green, respectively. Everything is else is shades of blue. CTI 中天 is hardcore blue and of very questionable quality.
PTV 公視 is supposed to be pretty neutral and professional.
Among the English language newspaper Chinapost is relatively middle of the road with a light blue tinge, much more unbiased than Tapei Times. They often have commentaries critical of the KMT and the current government, such as during the recent textbook affair. Taipei Times comes across like a strict party mouthpiece.
Do any Taiwanese TV or newspaper fall in to these categories?(even if slightly?)
(1) pro-China, as in pro-CCP
(2) anti-China(anti-CCP only, not the people)
(3) anti-China(the entire country)
(4) pro-American
(5) anti-American
