Why are Jews called 猶太人?

I’m wondering where the Yóutàirén translation came from?

I know some translations like Jesus being 耶穌 is actually rather closer than the English pronunciation.

In Taigi 猶太 is pronounced as Iu-thài. Translated from Latin Iudaeus.

I wonder if Matteo Ricci might have coined it when he encountered the Jews in Kaifeng.
