Why are Taiwan's faults always covered up by expats and the press?

In BBC style, the title Dr is used for doctors of medicine, scientific doctors and church ministers who hold doctorates, when relevant.

Honestly, I think the “non-complaining” thing is more of an expat thing, independent from the country of residence. When I lived in Japan I saw the same within the expat community. Criticizing the country would be severely frowned upon and seen as being “ungrateful” to a country that was so generously allowing you to live and work/study there.

On the other hand, even though I tend to complain about traffic here, I really like Taiwan and feel safe here. (I’m from South America, so I really value being able to go out at night and not watching out for my stuff getting stolen)
