Why do bus drivers do this?

They’ll be in Lane 1 (the one closest to the sidewalk) picking up passengers.

Then they’ll turn on their blinkers at the same time as they move into a lane 2, forcing all the scooters to move into Lane 1 since Lane 3 is usually car only.

Then 500 yards down the road, they’ll swing back into Lane 1 for the next bus stop, again switching on the indicators at the same time as they begin changing lane. Again, forcing scooters to switch into Lane 2.

This happens even if Lane 1 is clear of parked cars.

Is there an actual reason they do this or are they just sowing chaos? Do they have a bet on back at the depot on which driver can cause the most accidents?

I think you missed the part about drifting all the way into Lane 3, before swooping back into Lane 1 as they approach the next bus stop.

Guy

Cus they are c**ts.

Just had this happen to me.

As a rule I usually stay behind buses at a bus stop because if they pull out (completely ignoring you.) while you are over taking it can be pretty rough.

Well today I didn’t do that and the bus pulled out the exact moment I was overtaking me forcing me to get uncomfortably close to a car in the 3rd lane.

Came to say exactly the same thing!

If I’m in my car I just don’t move, they’ve always stopped so far. You can report them for failing to give way to traffic when moving off, the ones that do that are typically bad at using indicators so just follow them for a short distance and they’ll use no, or the wrong, indicator on one of their swoops across lanes. A lot will use hazard lights instead of indicators, also reportable. Report the worst offenders often enough and they will learn to drive with consideration or get a different job.

Some bus business need be shut down. This one was biggest before, now does not go here in Southern and Taitung regions, and recently could not pay wages. Now runs over a tourist up north. Sometimes better drive than take some busess.

I used to take the bus every day but an MRT extension made that unnecessary over 10 years ago. Now I almost never take the bus. I really did not enjoy that bus commute. Terrible driving. One abrupt stop resulted in what must have been a rear delt muscle tear from me holding on to a hand strap for dear life. The injury took 2-3 years to heal. I still have to deal with busses when I drive, but I don’t do much driving.

Sorry to hear about your injury. Riding a city bus is awful in Taiwan. Yeah, when driving a car/scooter best stay far away from any bus.
