Why is it that everytime I turn on Discovery or National Geographic Channel they are always showing some boring crap about engineering, or depressing garbage about unsolved murders or weapons of war? Whenever I watch those channels back in my home country, they are always talking about ancient civilizations like the Aztecs or life on the Serengeti. Somebody needs to contact these channels and demand better programming. Are the Taiwanese really that interested in how a skyscraper- something they see on a daily basis- is made; Or would they rather learn about animals and places they have never been to before. These channels offer people a chance to really learn something while watching television and they are disappointing me
.
I have found that unless one subscribes to one of their speciality channels in a place like SW Ontario, then it’s pretty much the same fare as Taiwan. The same shows repeated ad nauseum, with the same variety of sickening commercials repeatedly tossed in for good measure.

Are you saying it is as bad back home as it is here
?
I feel the same way. What the hell happened to Mythbusters? It’s practically never on here! Instead, we get endless documentaries about war (not a great way to relax), survival shows (everybody wants to be Bear Grylls now), behind-the-scenes looks at manufacturing (booooring), investigations of the paranormal (seriously? on a purportedly scientific channel?), and even stories about criminals. I miss watching good nature and science shows.

Why, yesh, I am!
For basic cable anyways.
And, I must say, I for one enjoy the war/weapons slant. It’s a sure fire way to kick start my day: learning about 6-shot revolving grenade launchers, how Rommel & Patton fucked up, how the American’s fucked up their Omaha, and Nippon their Pearl Harbour, and a view of a .45 ACP full automatic. And maybe even some footage of 'Nam. None of Croatia, or Bosnia yet though, and that’s a crying shame,!
I watch most of their stuff early in the morn.

Too bad about the Serengeti.
National Geographic and Discovery are very educational. I am now an expert of snakes, sharks, American crime scenes from the early 90’s and fat, middle-aged almost illiterate men who have at some point in their lives been chased by a bear.
Not only that, I know where all the cheap local hotels are if I want to get married and want to use their services for a reception.
